Gobble Gobble

Ah Thanksgiving...such a yummy time of year. I say yummy because this holiday is centered around FOOD. The Pilgrims and the Indians knew what they were doing that's for sure. Not only do we gorge ourselves (well I do at least) on the kinds of foods that are only prepared once a year, but it is a time of reflection and giving thanks and this year....FREE turkey. Yes my friends I said FREE!! All 14lbs of that delicious bird was FREE!! I never thought in my wildest dreams I would ever be excited about a free turkey, but oh how exciting it was! Our grocery store does "turkey points" for every $50 you spend and once you have 6...you get a FREE glorious, yummy bird. I think this is my way of "sticking it" to The Man.

You see EVERY time I go to the grocery store, I spend AT LEAST $50. Even if I just went a few days ago....I will somehow spend $50. I often look at the poor 15yr. old cashier and exclaim "WHAT????!!! What on earth did I buy???" I actually hate the grocery store. Well...not even hate...loathe. That's probably a more appropriate word...because it's so expensive. Even with coupons even with buying sale items...there is just no getting around it. So...on the day I knew I would receive my free turkey I almost danced into the store. I was giddy. I smiled all the way through and I lovingly chose a turkey that was at the maximum weight for the "freeness". It was splendid. I even waved cheerily at people I knew. I happily told the bag boy that I would prefer plastic. I might have even hummed a positive tune while I loaded my haul into the back of my van. Oh what a day it was. I think it actually tasted better on Thanksgiving day than if I had paid for it ( I know I technically did, but please....don't burst my bubble ).

So this Thanksgiving I was thankful not only for the health and happiness of everyone I know, but for FREE Turkey :)
