Light the Night 2008

Aug 14, 2008 19:34

- Every five minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.

- Leukemia is the leading cause of cancer death among children and young adults under the age of 20.

-Anyone can get leukemia. Leukemia affects all ages and sexes. The cause of leukemia is not known.

On October 4th, at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, we will be walking in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk to raise funds to help fight cancer. The Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

We'd like to enlist your support for this important cause. There are more than 785,000 people in the United States and Canada who are fighting blood cancers. Although research is responsible for increasing survival rates for these diseases, the battle is far from over.

This cause is especially important to our team as we are walking to honor the memory of Kevin Patoc, an amazing friend, boyfriend, brother and son, who unfortunately lost his battle with leukemia on July 5, 2008.

Go to this website to join our team & register to walk with us at:

and help us raise money to save lives and make a difference in the lives of those who are still fighting.

Even if you can't make it to the walk, please take the time to donate to our cause online at:

http://www.active.com/donate/ltnSanDi1/gonzoogles

- A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.

- A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.

- A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.

- A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Thank you for your support.

Kevin was my boyfriend and he fought his cancer with such amazing strength and bravery. Though the ending to his battle is a sad one, I'm just further inspired to try and make a difference in the lives of those who are still holding on to hope for a cure and a shot at a normal life. :)
