Again, instead of writing my cinema/media studies final paper, I'm on my local library's website looking up some LGBT titles to read during the summer.
The problem with me and LGBT titles is that, like with all books I read for fun, I'm pretty critical about the subject matter, so I'm not a fan of campy books like
Geography Club, but I also don't really like the gritty type like
The Year of Ice. That said, I don't enjoy the books by Alex Sanchez, since the two I read by him have been pretty poorly written with uninteresting and cliche subject matter, but I love the books by David Levithan, who often writes sappy, happy-ending stories that have been shot down by some members of my university's GSA. Generally, at this point in time, I enjoy realistic but ultimately happy kinds of stories, or if not happy, goofy and confident enough to bounce back from unfortunate events. Books like At Swim Two Boys, that are amazing but are angsty, stay under my skin but are also great; but I think I only ONE book that haunts me from time to time that makes me scream with feelings.
I'm just looking through these books and they're all available. That's great. I'll be leaving school for home in about a week's time and if the libraries are looking for someone to read those kinds of books, that's what I'm here for.
