Let's continue with my adventures of the past month! The weekend after I flew down to Jersey for Lori's wedding was another busy one. Friday night, June 13th, was the Relay for Life in Toronto, which
Erin,
Lynn,
Ilana and I participated in. We were on the Downtown Knit Collective's team, which was celebrating its tenth anniversary, so they were trying to get all past participants to join again, as well as recruiting new members. We all did our fundraising and showed up for an evening of food (SO MUCH FOOD), an annoying emcee, live music, and various other events to keep the relayers awake and entertained all night. Entertainment included plastic sumo suits we all put on to wrestle with each other (
again), giant inflatable bouncy ponies that we rode on, and neverending supplies of food.
The other really cool thing was that at one point in the night, a bunch of stylists from a salon were there offering free hair cuts to anyone who wanted to donate their hair. I'd been growing my hair out to donate anyway, so when they announced that they were doing that, the girls looked at me and asked if I was going to go for it. I said sure, why not? I knew my hair was long enough already, and though I hadn't planned on doing it right then, there was no reason not to, so I went to the stylists' tent and told them I wanted to donate my hair. After measuring the required 8 inches, they pulled my hair into two ponytails and cut them off, then the stylist went to town styling my newly short hair. I'd worn my glasses that night so that I wouldn't be up all night in my contacts, but I had to take my glasses off while she was working on my hair, which meant that I had no idea what it looked like until she was completely finished. But here are the before and after pictures, shamelessly stolen from Erin:
That picture, obviously, is immediately after she chopped the ponytails off.
That's what the back of it looked like a couple hours later.
And this was a picture taken shortly after I showered a day or two after it was cut, so that I could show other people. It is only ever that straight immediately after my shower now; otherwise, once it dries, it is wavy like this:
, which confuses me somewhat because my hair has always always been poker straight, but apparently not if you cut it short enough! Crazy! But I am absolutely loving the short hair, and am definitely planning on keeping it short for awhile. Actually, it hasn't even been a month since it was cut, but it already feels like it's getting a bit longer, so I may see about getting it trimmed in the near future. Also, I think Lynn and Ilana took more pictures of the hair-cutting before, during and after, but I haven't seen any of those yet and therefore cannot share them with you.
You can read Erin's recap of the Relay
here, and you can see some fun pictures she took of all the best/funniest parts of the evening. Also, you should definitely watch her video of me and Lynn on the giant inflatable ponies, because it was highly amusing. Speaking of videos,
here is one I took of Erin and Lynn in the sumo suits! :D (Sorry, I can't figure out how to embed it directly, since it was uploaded to google+, but you can watch it there.) And here are a couple more pictures of the ridiculous fun we had that night:
The best part about this picture was anonymously texting it to Lynn's husband with absolutely no explanation. Pretty sure we all laughed for a solid ten minutes after I took it.
Lynn was REALLY excited about the cotton candy. This may have been her second cone, which she basically ate in one continuous strip. :p
BOUNCY PONIES! :D
More bouncy ponies!
Lynn rocking her sumo suit.
Ilana and me in our sumo suits. :D
I got home from the Relay around 7 the next morning and promptly passed out, though I didn't really sleep well at that point. I woke up a couple hours later needing to pee, went back to sleep and woke up around 10 or 10:30, said hell no and went back to sleep again, but woke up a couple more times before giving up on sleep. I had an eye exam late that afternoon, in which I picked out a new pair of glasses.
I really like the frames, more than I was expecting to, though I do still need to order myself more contacts. I like having the glasses as backup, but I generally prefer to wear my contacts; however at the moment I'm out of contacts so I've been wearing the glasses every day. Once I find the prescription information from my last set of contacts, I will go order some more.
The weekend after the Relay, Dave came up to visit, driving this time. He got in late Thursday night, and I definitely did not want to go to work that Friday! But it was absolutely wonderful to come home to him that day, and we had an enjoyable weekend. That night, we went out to dinner at a Creole restaurant on St. Clair, which was pretty tasty, and there was a live jazz band playing for part of our time there. Saturday . . . that might have been the weekend we went to Target and got free ice cream because they were celebrating their anniversary in Canada, and I have no idea what else we did that day. That night, Lynn and Andrew had us over for a barbecue at their place, which was good times. It was so nice being able to walk to their house because they live so close, and the food was very enjoyable. We made utterly ridiculous sangria and drank many glasses of it, then played Cards Against Humanity so Dave could experience it. There was laughter to the point of tears, and it was fantastic. Sunday we checked out the Gourmet Gringos taco place on Bathurst before Dave drove home, and they were delicious. Then it was my last week of work, which was generally ridiculous, but I did get all my reports written before the year ended, so I'll count it as a success. The last day of work was the 27th, and the next day Ilana and I drove out to Oshawa for Erin and Andrew's housewarming party, which was a lot of fun. And then on Sunday, I drove down to Jersey for a week, which I just got back from the day before yesterday. But that trip deserves its own entry, not to mention this one is quite long enough already! So I will save those stories for another day. :)
I hope you guys are all doing well! I actually started reading some of your entries today! Hopefully I'll be able to continue that now that I'm off for a while!
