Subject line courtesy of Brand New Day by Ryan Star, aka the theme song to Lie to Me. Kristian and I have been watching a ton of episodes on Netflix while I've been down here, and I'm totally hooked on the show. Which, you know, figures, considering it's apparently canceled. Lame. I'm also loving the way they've styled Dr. Foster (Kelli Williams) on the show. I love her haircut and pretty much every single thing she's worn; she just looks so professional and put-together without being overwhelming or intimidating. I would certainly not mind having that wardrobe. I do at least pretty much have the haircut now, thanks to Kristian! She cut my hair for me the other day, and it looks super cute. I'm so pleased with it, especially because I don't have to do a damn thing to it for it to look good. I've let it air dry the last couple days to see how it comes out when I put in no effort, since that's my usual MO and I've no desire to use a blow dryer in the summer, and it is actually coming out great. It looked a little awkward the day she cut it, because my hair was already mostly dry during the cut, but it's been great every day since, and frankly, I'd so much rather that be the case than what usually happens when you go to the salon and leave with a great cut but can never replicate the look at home on your own. So yay! I win!
Actually this whole trip has pretty much been full of winning so far. Kristian gave me a nice jewelry box that she didn't want anymore, which is awesome because I've been wanting one in that style for awhile now. She also gave me a pretty necklace and ring she didn't want, so yay free jewelry! On Tuesday we took a trip down to Yellow Springs, where she bought me a cute dress for 50% off from a little boutique (and got an awesome swirly skirt for herself, as well as some pretty scarves). We also stopped in at a used bookstore where Kristian had traded in a box of books and had something like $55 credit, so we got a whole pile of books that we only spent like $8 on total. WIN. We then continued on to Fairfield where there was this mega grocery store that was supposed to have all these different things and acres of produce and stuff. We ended up being rather disappointed, honestly. Nothing was particularly impressive about the store and the grocery store Brad and I go to in Toronto has a bigger produce section than this place. Really, though, Kristian and I should have just realized that no grocery store is ever going to measure up to Wegmans, and we'll have to accept that.
Besides our shopping adventure the other day, I've gone into the retirement home where Kristian works with her a couple times and helped out in little ways. Yesterday I helped give out menus to the residents, and one of the sides was listed as gralic rice. Yes, gralic. This was made even better by the fact that menus for yesterday's dinner included a breadsticl. So for the rest of the evening, Kristian and I were laughing about wanting a gralic breadsticl. Honestly, this whole trip has just been awesome in that Kristian and I have always felt so at home around each other. It doesn't even feel like it's been so long since we've seen each other because being in each other's company is so natural for us. There's been lots of laughing over stupid things, cooking and eating good food, staying up too late, talking about everything under the sun, and just being ourselves with each other. It's definitely been a good trip, and I can't wait till Kristian has a passport so I can show her all my favorite places in Toronto!
Finally, I will leave you with this:

I have had this song on repeat since I discovered it last night. Kristian introduced me to a bunch of Mika a week or so ago, and I'm loving it, but this song was posted on Shakesville yesterday and I can't get enough of it. It doesn't even matter that it's in French and I've no idea what the lyrics mean (aside from the chanting of 'danse danse danse' in the background), it's just bouncy and catchy and I love it. So now you can get it stuck in your head! :)
