Hello, and welcome to my epic entry about moving and other things! Complete with pictures, video and more pictures! It will be long! You've been warned! Exclamation points!
Well, let's start with some before pictures of the new place, as we'll attempt to do this roughly chronologically.
A before shot of the kitchen. It was very pink. I did not approve. We painted it a nice pale yellow, and it is infinitely better. I still don't like the black window dressings, and think we might take those down at some point, but the paint definitely helped. I'm also not really into the floral wallpaper borders, which are in just about every room, but whatever.
This is the third bedroom, the one we've decided to use as a quasi-study. Also a before shot, complete with terrible '80s style window dressing. Why, I have no idea. We painted this room just a slightly lighter shade of what's already there, mainly because there was a lot of damage to the walls from people hanging things and leaving holes, so it needed to be fixed up.
The master bedroom, before. UGH. Pretty much everything about this picture is just terrible, and it is SO MUCH BETTER now. a) That is a dreadful paint color for a bedroom. b) Those blinds? Why do you need floor-length blinds to cover a window? We took those down immediately because I know for a fact that all we would have heard all. night. long. would've been Dwyn clacking the damn things together and batting them around. No thank you. I mean, plus they were ugly. And c) THE BORDER. Let me show you:
WHAT IS THAT? And more importantly, WHY would you want that in your bedroom? I do not even remotely understand the taste of whoever decorated this place. Clearly that had to go. We ended up just painting over it because we didn't have the tools to properly remove it, but even still, it is such an improvement.
So, now that you've seen the before shots, have a video of the more or less complete new place, after!

So let me elaborate on the story of the garage door opener. Previously, there was just a button inside the house to open and close the garage door, but the landlord told us when we were signing the lease that she would be having someone install a keypad outside the door and providing a button to use from my car. Great, fantastic. So that all happened, except the keypad only opens the door, you can't close it from there. And you can't use the car button to close the door. Meaning the only way to close the garage is with the button inside the house. Which makes absolutely no sense. What am I going to do, open the garage, get in my car, drive out of the garage, park my car, get out of my car, and go back inside just to close the garage every morning when I leave for work? Uh, no. That would be dumb. We're pretty sure the guy doing the installation had no clue what he was doing, but we spoke to Stephanie (the landlord) about the ridiculousness of the whole thing, so hopefully she will be having someone come fix it.
We also discovered on Saturday that the dishwasher doesn't work. I ran it, it sounded like it was running and doing dishwasher-type things, but when I opened it, all of the dishes were still dirty, the detergent hadn't dissolved at all, and there was water standing in the bottom of it. :-/ But Stephanie said she'll have someone come out to fix it, and hopefully that person will be more competent than the one who did the garage door opener. :p We still need to get a few things, including a new couch/loveseat/armchair, a table for the front hall, a box spring, night stands, a second dresser, and a guest bed. My dad has offered to buy us a couch, instead of the bed that he's owed me for like 5 years now. However, he has not yet given us a budget, which makes shopping for a couch rather difficult. We went to test drive a few at The Brick last week, but it was kind of pointless when we didn't know whether to look at the $2000+ couches or stick to the $500 ones. :p Either way, hopefully we will have a nice new couch soon!
Argh, so then there was a whole big fiasco with our old landlord on Friday. I had met with the property manager on Monday night to walk through the old place with him and return the keys, so I thought we were all done with them at that point. Yeah, until I checked our bank statement online Friday morning and discovered that the landlord had cashed the April rent check that we'd asked him to destroy, since our deposit was supposed to cover last month's rent. I nearly flipped my shit. I sent the property manager an email basically saying that we wanted our deposit plus interest back immediately since the landlord cashed that check. I also called and left a voicemail, and then spent the next several hours feeling kind of sick to my stomach and worrying that they would try to dick us over and not give the money back. I mean, we were fortunate enough to have the money to cover the check in the account at the time, but that was money that had been earmarked for other things, so we couldn't really afford to just have it be gone. Fortunately, I did get a call from the property manager that afternoon telling me that the landlord couldn't write us a check that day but his partner could. "How soon do you need it? Is it okay if we just put the check in the mail or do you want to pick it up?" Fuck no you are not putting that in the mail, I will be there to pick it up as soon as I hang up the damn phone. :p You know, with a little less swearing. And because our bank is in the same plaza that their office is, I literally picked up the check, walked it to the bank and deposited it immediately. So thankfully we did get our money back right away, but dear lord that was a heart attack I did not need. And I am SO glad we now ARE actually done with those people.
Okay, so since that was a stressful story, have something nice and relaxing: cat pictures! Yes, these are all pictures of my cat being adorable. YOU WILL LOOK AT THEM AND LIKE IT! :p
I know, it's really hard to tell from these pictures, but Aphrodite is definitely making herself at home. Lol.
Look at the fluffiness!!
She was just soaking up all the love here.
I may have turned this picture into an LJ icon. Possibly. :p
We think she really likes that the couch is now up against a wall (it wasn't in the old place), because now she can roll around like this on the back of it and not worry about falling off.
Loooooooook at that faaaaaaaaaace! ♥ So yeah, clearly she's settled in well, lol.
Okay, so now that the epic entry is out of the way, I really want to get back to being a better LJ friend. I'm slowly working my way through all of your entries (I'm only a week behind now! :p ), and hope to get back to writing my own more regularly as well. Thanks for sticking with me even though I've been a bit absent this past month. Love you all!
