pretend there's a subject line here

Figured I'd take the time to do a quick update now, as I can pretty much guarantee I will disappear from the internet next week. Tomorrow Brad's having a bunch of friends over, so I'm going out to get my oil changed and then hang out with Sue. I think we're going to see Happy Feet 2, which will be fun. And then Brad's parents are coming on Sunday and staying until Friday. Brad's mom apparently got a job with UPS, which is great for her, and there's some 5 day training thing in Mississauga next week, so they're going to be staying with us. We've never had them here for that long, so it'll be interesting having my in-laws around for almost a week. I'm sure it'll be fine, they're nice people and I get along with them, but whenever you have people staying at your house, you have to be on and entertaining the whole time, so I don't imagine the week will be very relaxing. On top of that, I am babysitting about a million hours next week. Wednesday evening 5-10. Friday evening 8-1? Not sure exactly, but she said it would be a late night, and I really should have said no to it, because I knew I was also going to be sitting on Saturday from 8 am until 1 or 2 pm. And also Saturday night from 6 pm (maybe earlier) till who knows when. At least my bank account will be really happy after all of that. Oh, and there's also the American Thanksgiving dinner that the American expats in Toronto group is doing on Thursday night. So you can see why updating now is probably a good call.

We had an introductory appointment on Thursday with the woman who I think is now our new family doctor. One of the couples I babysit for are both doctors, so I had asked them if they knew any of their colleagues who were accepting new patients. The mom emailed me a name and said to give them a call and say she'd referred me. So we got an appointment for 9 am on Thursday and went in to meet Dr. Freeman. We were both a bit annoyed at the fact that we didn't even get called back until about 9:40, and then waited probably another 10 minutes for a doctor to come in. Apparently, it's a teaching facility, so a resident took all of our information and medical history and all that, and we only talked to Dr. Freeman for about 5 minutes. But for all the irritation (we also had to pay for parking!), the resident seemed pretty competent and nice, and she was on the ball about setting up follow up appointments for the things we needed. I think at this point, we'll keep going there, because it'd be way more hassle than it's worth to try to find another doctor and go through all the intro stuff again. Hopefully our subsequent appointments will go well, and I guess we'll just expect to be waiting awhile. I have to hunt down my last doctor in Jersey to see if they have any records on me they can send up here. Oh, the joys of moving.

Other than that, the week was fine. I don't feel like I got as much done at work as I would've liked, but some weeks are like that. We had a bowling night on Thursday that was set up by our social committee, and it was nice to get out and do something fun with work people. I got to talk to my sister on the phone today, and we chatted for about an hour and a half, which was nice. For all the times we've fought and not gotten along, I do miss her, and it'll be good to see her over winter break.

Okay, I think I'm going to go look up my old doctor info and look into my insurance coverage before I forget, then maybe read a few more of your entries before bed. If you don't see me around much this week, well, you know why, and hopefully I'll survive all the craziness to tell you about it. Enjoy the weekend!
