as far from god as angels can fly

FRIENDS! *hugs livejournal* utopiandream sent me a nudge the other day, which I probably deserved, because I know it's been a little while. The thing is, I've had an entry building in my head all week, and have really been wanting to write one, I just have. not. had. time. I was trying to figure out why I feel like I've been so busy, and well, it's because I have been. Let's just take this week as an example: Sunday I got a hair cut, picked Meghan up from Downsview, and spent the day at the mall with her. I was home in the evening, but there was dinner and shows that Brad and I like to watch from 7-10 pm. So no computer time. Monday, Amy and I had made plans to get dinner together downtown and catch up since we hadn't seen each other in a few months. For me to get downtown, I have to leave an hour travel time each way, whether I'm taking public transit or driving. So for meeting at 6, I had to leave by 5, and I didn't get home till after 9. By the time I made my lunch for the next day and watched Canada's Worst Driver with Brad, it was bedtime, and again, no computer time. Tuesday, Brad and I spent some time talking and working some stuff out, so while I did go online a little, I was mostly trying to catch up on everyone else's entries and had no time for writing my own. Likewise on Wednesday. Then Thursday, Brad and I went to the mall to see about getting him a jacket I'd seen there on Sunday (more about that later), and we left pretty much immediately after I got home from work so we'd have time to do that before I headed downtown for knitting group. Didn't get home till around 10, and went right to bed. No computer time. And yesterday, I babysat from 5-12:30ish, which basically meant I had time to go home from work long enough to drop some things off and kiss Brad before I had to turn around and leave again. So, clearly, no computer time.

The kicker to all of this is that my work recently installed a new internet filter, which no longer allows access to livejournal. Not like I was ever spending tons of time on LJ at work, but it was nice to be able to read a few entries while I ate my lunch, or after finishing a report when I needed to reset my brain before going on to the next thing. So since LJ apparently contains "prohibited friendship content" or whatever, I can only go on when I'm home now, and clearly we can see that I'm not always getting much time there either. All of this is a very long way of saying that I know I haven't been around LJ much lately, but life's been a little crazy and man, have I been wanting to write an entry!

Phew! So, let me tell you about the stuff I bought on Sunday! First,

The upload to scrapbook page for lj wasn't working properly, so I had to upload these to photobucket, which made me feel really old school. :p Anyway, I know my hair's not drastically different from how it was before, but I like it and I think she did a good job with it, so I'm happy.

Now, onto

I was on a mission to replace the torn pants/get more work pants and to get some more winter clothes, and I think I was pretty successful. I bought pants that were very similar to these, if not exactly the same, for 40% off, so I paid $42 for them. The ones I have are a dark/charcoal gray, but still with the pinstripes. I also immediately had to take them to be hemmed, because apparently all people have legs a mile long, according to clothing manufacturers. This reminds me that I picked them up from the dry cleaners last night but haven't tried them on yet, so I should do that later, to make sure the hem is at the right length.

Also bought some fun socks and tights!

The socks were also from Esprit, and the tights came from Stylesense, where I also bought one of those round spiky brushes, in an attempt to maintain the volume/bounce the hair stylist gave my hair when she cut it. So far, I don't think I've been very successful. :-/ Oh well.

Let's see, then we went to Joe Fresh, which I love because they have cute stuff at good prices. I bought this shirt, I think this sweater, but in ivory, not black, and this sweater, which is not on their website, but was on sale for $9.94:

Then, of course, we went to Old Navy. How can I not? While their commercials are exceptionally stupid, I generally just pretend they don't exist so I can enjoy their clothes. I got these pants (on sale!), this sweater, which is sooooo soft and comfortable, in the crimson and clover color, and two of these shirts, one in dark red and one in medium blue. I think I can definitely consider this a successful shopping trip! :)

So while I was at the mall, I wanted to look for a new jacket for Brad, because the one he's currently wearing makes him look like he's homeless. It is fraying around the cuffs and hem, and is ripped above the front pocket in a way that causes the pocket to hang off of the jacket. He sees no problem with this, of course, but I'd like to get him one that's in better shape. So I found one I thought was nice and on sale while I was there on Sunday, and we went back Thursday for him to look at it and try it on. He didn't like the one I'd found very much, so we looked around at a few other styles. But omg, the saleswoman there was the pushiest person EVER. As soon as I took him over and started showing him the jacket I'd found, the saleswoman was rightthere asking if she could help us find a size. So we told her Brad's size, he tried it on, and practically before he'd gotten it off, she was grabbing it to put back on the hanger. And every single thing we looked at after that, she was rightthere on top of us, asking to look for sizes or put things on hangers or whatever. It was really really annoying. I get theft prevention, and I get trying to make a sale, but jesus, give us some breathing room, lady. If we can't find his size, we'll ask you for it, don't worry. They didn't have a jacket that fit him in any of the styles he liked, so we're going to have to look elsewhere anyway, but I would've been reluctant to buy anything there after the saleslady was so obnoxious.

BUT! In much better and WAY MORE EXCITING news (don't you like how I buried this half way down the entry after a bunch of pictures and crap?), Brad got an email the other day from CIC telling him that he'd met the requirements to be approved as my sponsor for my PR application!!!! Eeeeeeee! This is really only step one, because my application now has to go on to Buffalo for them to process my part of it and make sure I'm not some terrorist deadbeat baby killer trying to get into Canada, but him getting approved to sponsor me is definitely good news and I'm really excited about it. And now on with the waiting. :p

I suppose to be fair I should also post the not so good news, which is that my EI appeal was denied. I really did not expect them to award my case in my favor, so I'm not surprised that they turned me down. At least I tried, I guess. But, here, have something that totally made me laugh out loud this week. I really do enjoy the oatmeal's comics.

For anyone who was on my girly filter a couple months ago and remembers what I was asking for input on there, I finally went and bought one this week! I'm super excited about it and will be sure to report back on how it goes once I'm able to use it in a couple weeks. SORRY TO BE ALL VAGUE AND CRYPTIC, GUYS. All, like, 3 of you? :p

Also, the tv would have me believe that it is Christmas season already, though I do not believe it until after PROPER Thanksgiving. :p Anyway, it's been a few years since I've really put any thought into a Christmas list, since we've been too broke to really do gifts for awhile, but I did have fun playing around on the KnitPicks website the other day and creating a wishlist there. Yeah, I have the sneaking suspicion that if I were to seriously sit down and think about gifts that I would like, a large portion of them might be knitting related. Like if someone were to buy me the yarn I need to make a pretty sweater? I would be thrilled. I think that makes me an even bigger dork than everyone already knew I was, but that's okay. I'd probably also be thrilled with baking stuff, too, haha. Oh, KitchenAid stand mixer, one day you will be mine! Lol.

Well, now that this is approximately novel length, I think I'm finally all caught up. I guess this is what happens when I go too long without writing. And clearly a week or two is too long for me. :p Anyway, now I should go shower, eat lunch, do laundry, do dishes, tidy up a little, maybe bake some cookies - in no particular order. We don't have anywhere to be or any errands to run this weekend, and I am totally relishing the opportunity to sit on my ass. :) Have a good weekend, everyone!
