Oh hello there, LJ. I've been reading all of your entries, but I think I needed a little hiatus from writing after that 30 day thing. I don't know that I'll do another one of those any time soon.
Anyway, the past week or so has been pretty busy, both at work and outside of it. On Thursday, I stayed late at work for a parent meeting, then basically got home, ate dinner, and turned around and left again to go to knitting group. I definitely enjoy it there, and there were some funny conversations that night. Then Friday, I stayed late again because Sue had invited me to a choir concert that night, and we'd agreed to get dinner first, so there wasn't really a point in me driving all the way home just to turn around and come back. Dinner was very enjoyable, at an Italian restaurant that Sue had been to once before. The concert was all right, not super fun, but it was still nice to get out and do something not related to work with Sue. Saturday I got up early to babysit at 8 am, but had a good time with the kids, and even went out and played tennis with them for a bit. FYI, I am terrible at tennis. I cannot hit backhand to save my life. But the weather was gorgeous, and it was a good time. And then, when the parents got home, they brought me a pretty flowering houseplant to thank me for all the times I've sat for them, which was very sweet of them. :) Then, later on Saturday I went to meet with a woman who'd posted looking for a summer babysitter. We seemed to click pretty well and she offered me the position, which I'm pretty psyched about. It's from July 8 to August 20, I think, Monday to Friday for those six weeks. It will be great, because it means I'll have a week off in the beginning of July, and about two weeks at the end of August, so I'll still have time to relax and do nothing for part of the break, but I also won't be bored for the majority of the summer. The hours are a little long (8-6), but it's good money, and it'll be a lot more fun than a regular job. So that's definitely a plus!
Then Sunday, Brad and I had some nice time together in the morning before getting our day started, and I think it was something we really needed. I think anyone who's been married or in any long-term relationship could tell you that every couple goes through periods where you don't spend as much time together or don't have as much sex or don't do whatever as much as you might have in the beginning. And I know those lulls are inevitable, but the time we got to spend together this weekend felt like we were getting back on the upswing of things, and that is a good feeling. The rest of the day we just did some grocery shopping, relaxed around the house and enjoyed the weather, but it was a good day. Oh, and we made burgers for dinner that came out really well, so that was fun. Can't wait till I get my tax refund so we can actually get a barbecue!
The busyness continues this week - last night was book club, which was fun. Turns out I was one of the only ones who'd finished The Book of Dave, and most of the people who were only partway through it didn't seem to like it much. Oh well. Then Thursday is knitting group again, and Friday, I'm going to the Canadian premiere of
No Woman No Cry. I'm really looking forward to that one. Bex and I had agreed to go together, but because we're special we didn't discuss who was going to get tickets . . . so we each ended up getting some. Actually, we've got 6 tickets altogether, because I got two, and she got four, two under her name and two under another email address for me. Oops. So far we've managed to convince Amy and my friend Anna to join us, and possibly one of Becca's friends as well, so I think we've only got one more ticket to find a person for. Regardless, I think the movie should be good, and I'm excited about going. And then Saturday! One of the psych secretaries is having a party in the evening for her birthday and her son's birthday or possibly just for the sake of having a party, so I'm going to that. And because the party is up in Mono (north of Orangeville), it is roughly halfwayish to my in-laws, so I am meeting them for lunch before the party. Whew!
Today was interesting because Brad had somehow managed to turn the volume on the alarm clock all the way down yesterday, so that when it went off this morning, it made no sound, and therefore I woke up an hour late. Oops. However, I still made it to work shortly after 9, so it wasn't an issue. It kind of bugs me that I can get up at 6:30 and still manage to be rushing out the door at 8, but I can wake up at 7:25 and be out the door by 8:15 or 8:20. Wtf, self, really. Okay, running out of things to say, I think. Oh, but I started Year of the Flood, and I'm loving that one, too. Not quite as intensely gripping as Oryx and Crake, but still really good, and I'm loving all the little things that connect the two. Hooray for good books!
