nothing's what your words mean to me

This week has been uh, interesting, to say the least. I started off feeling pretty good about life in general. I'd gotten my fingerprints done and mailed off to the FBI over the weekend, so was happy about that, and I thought I was well underway to getting my Canadian car insurance policy finally set up, so that was good, too. Well, then yesterday I got a call from the insurance broker at KTX, who I'd been in the process of setting up a policy with, telling me that there was a problem with Brad's license. Ugh.

So, backstory here is that Brad got a speeding ticket back in like 2008 when we were driving back from visiting his parents. He didn't have the money to pay the ticket at the time, and I guess it just got forgotten about. Well, the insurance broker tells me that Brad's license is actually suspended and has been since December of 2008, due to the unpaid ticket. Uh, oops. This is really not that big of a deal by itself, though, because all you have to do is go pay the ticket and fees and they restore your license. (Ask me why I know this!) However, apparently for this insurance company, that ticket and suspension now makes Brad a higher rated driver than me, so he would have to be listed as the primary driver on the policy, which would make my monthly premium go up to $732. A MONTH. *dies*

Clearly, this does not make me a happy camper, especially as I wasn't thrilled about paying the close to $500 a month I'd agreed to pay before finding out about Brad's license. I email the insurance broker this morning, and find out that there's no way I can exclude Brad from the policy, although it is an option for some insurance companies. I put a call in to CAA, who I'd previously gotten a quote from, and leave a voicemail there. Then I called RBC, who apparently offers a discount since I work for Peel, and they were fantastic! The price he quoted me was $540 a month, which is a little bit more expensive than what my original KTX quote had been, but still way better than $700something. Plus, he said that Brad does not have to be included on the policy at all because he only has a G1 license, which means he can't ever drive by himself anyway! Soooo yeah. I still have to fax them some info and work out the paperwork, and I'll wait to hear back from CAA, but I feel better already knowing that I have options besides paying obscene amounts of money for insurance. (Yes, $500 is still obscene, but pretty much the best I can do here at this point.)

Anyway, so since I was feeling productive and making phone calls, I called the summer camp I'd applied to last month, to confirm that they'd received my application and all. (I don't think I've mentioned this in here yet, and if I did, sorry to repeat myself. We got an email at work about a residential summer camp for kids with learning disabilities, ADHD, etc., and it pretty much sounded like the perfect summer job for me, so I applied. I don't know what will happen with the whole me being an American and that entailing added paperwork thing, but it was worth a shot.) So the woman who answers says that in fact, she'd sent me an email on February 7th asking me my availability for an interview. I totally never got this email, although she read me the correct email address that it was sent to. Fortunately, they're still in the process of doing interviews, and she said she would have sent me another email to follow up if she hadn't heard back from me, so we were able to schedule me for an interview next week! I hope that it goes well! I'm a little nervous, because I haven't been on an interview since . . . late 2009? But I'm sure it'll be fine. Brad's lab TA also gave him some info on places that are currently hiring undergrad chem students for summer work, so he's working on cover letters, and I'm really hoping he gets one of the positions. Keep your fingers crossed for us, please! I will be SO happy if we are actually both employed this summer, and don't have to repeat the hell that was having no income for two months that we went through last summer.

So after a little bit of freak out about the insurance thing, I'm once again feeling much better and optimistic about life. And! My Kirabean comes to visit this weekend! I can't wait to see her and have some girly sister time together. :) I mean, don't tell anyone or anything, but I actually do like my sister and I miss her, especially since I haven't seen her since my wedding. So yay!

Okay, and here is today's picture prompt:
Day 11: a photo of a night you loved.
Day 12: a photo of when you were happy.
Day 13: a photo of one of your favorite movies.

Okay, so, you might look at this picture and be confused, because it is clearly not just a picture of a movie. But! One of the movies I really enjoy is on the tv at the side of the picture, and the case is on top of the pizza box, although I don't think you can really see it clearly. If you can tell me what the movie is based on that screenshot, you win a million awesome points! :D But basically, I chose this picture because it not only includes one of the movies I own (and therefore would happily watch again), but it's from a really fun girls night I had with life_in_pieces and cheekybaby when I lived in Lawrenceville. There was (clearly) lots of junk food, and funny movies, and just general hilarity. It was a fun night, and I wish we all lived close enough to do things like that more often.

30 day photos, kira, bureaucracy, fun times, happy, good car, mood, potential, money money money, friends
