She arranged her features into a pleasant smile and shifted the package she was carrying under one arm to press the door buzzer.

Of course, he thought, half a second after he had unconsciously smiled at the visitor, Christine would be the first to arrive.
"Christine!" He stepped back, holding out the streamer-hand in indication that she should come in. "Thanks for coming." He spotted the package, and smiled. "You brought him a present?"

She walked through the door and took in the half-decorated room. De was, as yet, nowhere to be seen, and neither were any other guests. "Do you need any help before everyone arrives?"
