Christine paused in front of the door, taking a moment to compose herself. She'd managed to get through her shift in Sickbay without anyone noticing that anything was wrong - though she suspected the fact that neither Tina nor her own Dr. McCoy were on shift may have had something to do with that. Still, it was a hopeful sign. She was determined not to let her own unsettled feelings put a damper on De's special day.

She arranged her features into a pleasant smile and shifted the package she was carrying under one arm to press the door buzzer.

Bill opened the door with half a pastrami sandwich in one hand and a multicoloured streamer in the other. It wasn't the most graceful of gestures, but he was, at least, wearing shoes.

Of course, he thought, half a second after he had unconsciously smiled at the visitor, Christine would be the first to arrive.

"Christine!" He stepped back, holding out the streamer-hand in indication that she should come in. "Thanks for coming." He spotted the package, and smiled. "You brought him a present?"

Christine smiled back, glancing down at the gift. "Just a little something he mentioned once."

She walked through the door and took in the half-decorated room. De was, as yet, nowhere to be seen, and neither were any other guests. "Do you need any help before everyone arrives?"

Leonard headed over from where he'd been setting out plates and glasses.

"Christine," he greeted her with a warm smile and a hug, "no, I think we're pretty much sorted, actually."
