I went to see Tori at the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver last night. It was a really good show. As usual. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Tori. Not my favourite Tori concert, but amazing nonetheless. She came out wearing a blond wig, and some old fashioned green dress which is one of her characters on her new album... Santa. She’s this 84 year old woman who pours drinks. I can’t say I’ve been following this album too much, but that’s what I gathered from reading the album covers when I downloaded it from iTunes. She poured some drinks for the band members and douced herself with it like it was perfume. It was kind of cool. I’m not sure the significance of it though. Must be something with the character that I never followed.
About one-quarter through she played Raspberry Swirl, which the crowd LOVED, and then there was this extra-long ending/jam session with the band where Tori went off stage and the crew changed her second piano and replaced it with an organ. Then she came out with a long red wig on and a bright gold sequence on it. That was the Tori character, of herself. It was interesting to see her in a long red wig.
She put me in a trance and made me want to be great. It’s weird how my thought patterns shift during her shows. I saw her up there and it made me want to hurry up and do my great things. Write my ebooks and get them up there... have my shit out. Spend my days doing what I want to do... try some modeling and some acting... be on fire... She made me want to dance and fuck and have an exceptional life. It was crazy. She’s a really sexy woman.
I can’t even tell you all the songs she played. It was really mostly about the state of mind she put me in... I was somewhere else. She’s a drug.
The crowd was definitely way older than it used to be. I remember when it was a bunch of high school and college kids... dressed up in goth or like hippies... Now it was a MUCH older crowd. I think I was one of the younger people there. Well... I’d say mid-twenties was the youngest... so I guess that’s me... but then there were definitely mid-thirties and up to 40’s... even some people who were like 60’s. It was pretty crazy to see how much the crowd’s aged. It was in an old theater too, so I guess that shapes the atmosphere too, but it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting or what I was used to. But I guess Tori’s getting older now too... she’s 44... so I guess it makes sense that the crowd will age with her. I don’t really see her as being old though. She’s doing okay as far as I can tell.
I bought tickets off some girl on Craigslist who couldn’t go. So we got 20th row center seats for $30 less than face value each. It was a really good deal. Especially since all we’d have been able to buy from ticketmaster would have been left balcony. Which sucks. So it was a good deal. Anyway... I have some pretty crappy pictures... which I’ll post here...
If you look REALLY closely... you can even see Tori!!
