*shrugs* It doesn't surprise me that a movie (directly or indirectly) based on a comic which was made to sell toys, didn't receive an oscar.

But the Transformers' visual FX and the sound editing and FX, which was what the movie was up for Oscar-wise, raised the bar so far as FX go. It doesn't matter that it was a movie about toys and comics, in my opinion, it should have gotten the Oscar.

But that's just my opinion.

Well unfortunatly neither you nor I were the ones judging it, having worked with 3D graphics for a while now. I am aware that metal and plastic textures are somewhat easier to make/render then more organic textures.

I believe the crew behind the transformers movie went further then a simple shine and bumpmap, such as the reflections in the shine as well.

You can take my first comment as either a comment as a critic on the origins of the movie or on the logic/lack of logic used in judging the nominations for the oscar.
