Title: The Girls
Character(s): ... the girls from Primeval, mostly Abby, Claudia, Jenny, & Sarah, with cameos from Helen, Caroline, & Lacey plus the odd mention of some of the guys
Warnings: Many, many pairings (hah, if that needs to be warned for); mention of mature subject matter; questionable sentence structure.
Rating: G - PG-14/T (trust me, it's very mild)
Category: sentence!fic, femslash & gen (mostly), slash & het (briefly and if you squint)
Spoilers: Nothing, really.
Beta(s): None, Brit-picking appreciated!
Author's Notes: Obviously, not all of these little snippets are in the same universe. Even snippets for the same character or pairing aren't necessarily in the same 'verse. These are sorted by character and by pairing, not chronologically, except for the four Abby+Lester timey-wimey ones (which are, incidentally, in the same 'verse as the other Abby+Lester timeywimey ones from my Lester 50 Sentences), as well as the last three. Oh yes, and if there are any references that you don't get, feel free to ask. (And no, I won't be taking requests from this one, thank you very much, I have enough prompts to work with! xD)
Disclaimer: Not mine, never mine, no profit!
Summary: Glimpses of the girls, of as many different flavours as Abby's flat plus her species of pets.
#01 - Walking
Abby's never been much of one for walking away from her problems: if they're not all that bad she can ignore them and if they really are all that bad, she runs.
#04 - Wonder
The boa's scales gleamed, all the iridescent shades of the rainbow reflecting in the harsh summer light, and Abby caught her breath, staring at the snake in wonder.
#15 - Breathing
Ever since the doctors diagnosed her, Abby wakes up every morning slightly surprised to find herself still alive and breathing.
#21 - Quiet
Abby shares a look with Stephen and then they are wriggling forward through the underbrush, as quiet as humanly possible.
#26 - Jump
With a 50-foot drop behind them and a 40-foot long Allosaurus in front of them, Abby didn't even think twice, she just grabbed Connor, closed her eyes, pictured the anomaly site, and jumped.
#30 - Just
Abby knows better than most that the world is not a just place - and sometimes the legal system is the least just of all.
#34 - Serenade
"And Connor, if you ever try to serenade me again, I'll, I'll..." Abby just couldn't keep a straight face and dissolved into laughter.
#47 - Valiant
"...and so this medal shall be awarded to one Abigail Maitland for her valiant stand against the enemy, for an act of greatest heroism and most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger."
#40 - Solitary
She plunged through the anomaly that she thought everyone else had gone through, but as she opens her eyes and feels the anomaly close behind her, she realizes that she is all alone.
#46 - Horizon
On the third day, Abby crests a rise and sees it sparkling, gleaming against the darkening horizon.
#38 - Sojourn
Abby makes a joking comment about finally getting some vacation time, but Lester just quirks an eyebrow and says drily that he prefers his holiday sojourns to be the correct era and distinctly lacking in dinosaurs.
#07 - Waste/Wasteland
Abby hauls herself up the cliff and pauses to give Lester a hand up as well, then they stand there and gaze out across the wasteland stretching for miles in front of them, their harsh breathing the only sound filling the silence between them.
#09 - War
Jenny knows it'll be bad as she nears the anomaly site and passes one of the soldiers emptying her stomach into the bushes, when Jenny pauses Lacey straightens up and offers a weak grin, accompanied only by the words, 'It looks worse than some war zones I've seen in there, ma'am,' and Jenny swallows nervously.
#10 - Weddings
In a way Jenny is glad her engagement has ended, she never really liked weddings anyway, or so she tells herself.
#16 - Breaking
Jenny has always found the crunch of breaking bone immensely satisfying when it's the result of her first meeting someone else's face.
#20 - Bane
From the moment she meets Nick Cutter, Jenny knows he will be the bane of her existence.
#33 - Stupidity
Time and time again Jenny marvels at the stupidity of her colleagues; time and time again they prove her assumptions wrong.
#35 - Sarcasm
Sarcasm, Jenny finds, is really the only sure way to handle Danny Quinn without losing her cool.
#31 - Smirk
Claudia spots the difference almost immediately, even when presented to 'the original version', Jenny Lewis still retains her confident smirk.
#49 - Victory
Claudia and Jenny stand together at that spot that Lester stood so many times before, looking down into the drum of the ARC at the celebrations of victory - everything has been remedied and will turn out as it should.
#05 - Worry
Claudia clasped and unclasped her fingers around the steaming mug as she sat staring off into the unforgiving night, worry for her lover keeping her from taking a single sip until long after it had gone cold.
#14 - Burning
Claudia wakes up doubled over in pain, cramping muscles burning in agony, and she is immensely glad for Lester's new secretary when Lorraine takes her call of 'sick, can't come in' with sympathy.
#42 - Neutral
Caught between the dual forces of Cutter and Lester, Claudia and Ryan share many exasperated looks as they struggle to stay neutral.
#08 - Whiskey and rum
When she finally gets away from the interrogations at the place called the Ark, or something equally stupid, and finds a moment to actually think, Caroline finds herself shaking, so she dolls up and heads for the bar, hoping to lose the memory of things with too many teeth to the hard bite of whiskey & rum.
#45 - Natural
"And this all-natural shampoo will do wonders for your hair!" the alternate-Caroline burbles, while Abby just stares.
#17 - Belief
Helen has held few beliefs absolutely certain in her life, but the oldest and most certain one is the simple belief that one person can make a difference.
#50 - Defeat
Helen tries to crawl backwards out of the flaming wreckage but her leg is stuck and as the superpredators close in, her thoughts are bitter: the first and the last.
#12 - Blessing
'Count your blessings', Sarah's father always told her, so now she presses herself into the crevice even tighter than before and starts counting in her head, eyes screwed shut and desperately ignoring the predators prowling outside.
#13 - Bias
Cutter keeps sending her links, usually accompanied by hopeful smilies, and Sarah keeps replying with 'No, Cutter, it's not likely to be related'; she thought he was a scientist, so shouldn't he know about the dangers of viewing things with such a strong bias?
#18 - Balloon
To Sarah's surprise Abby's first reaction upon seeing her after getting back from several months away is to laugh and tell her she looks more like she's hidden a balloon under her shirt than like she's pregnant.
#41 - Nowhere
After so many years travelling, Sarah finds it vaguely depressing when she has to answer a question of where she's going for the holidays with 'nowhere'.
#02 - Waltz
Danny and Connor are taking ages to change into their suits, so Sarah starts up the music and turns to ask Abby, "May I have this waltz?"
#22 - Quirks
Abby'd never been much of one for the geeky types but after living with Connor and now dating Sarah she's beginning to gain some appreciation for their little quirks.
#28 - Jousting
Sarah grins at the look on Abby's face as the small blonde takes in the chaos of a jousting tournament surrounding her, and grins even broader when Abby turns to her and says 'This is what you do for fun?'
#37 - Soliloquy
When Abby finally stops ranting, Sarah can't help the smile that twitches the corners of her mouth, nor resist the urge to say, "That was an impressive soliloquy."
#03 - Wishes
Jenny wishes that she'd never come to work at the ARC, that she'd never met Nick Cutter or seen dinosaurs or anomalies, but then Sarah kisses her, sweet and soft, and Jenny can only wish that they might have met in another way.
#06 - Whimsy
Jenny curls up in her favourite chair, watching Sarah with amusement, as she tries on outfit after outfit, the serious academic having given way to this moment of delightful whimsy.
#23 - Question
Once Jenny makes up her mind to pop the question it takes far longer than she thought it would to get up the nerve to actually ask, but afterwards she can only wonder why she'd doubt Sarah's answer.
#25 - Quitting
'I don't want to talk about it,' she says to Sarah the first night they meet after she quit, 'I just don't want to talk about it.'
#27 - Jester
They were looking through an old photo album together, flipping through pictures and giggling together over Sarah's silly childhood haircuts, until Jenny turned a page to be confronted with an image of a young Sarah, done up in what looked like the most ridiculous costume ever upon which Sarah flipped past in a hurry, blushing and mumbling that she'd been the jester in a school play when she was 10.
#29 - Jewel
When Jenny gives her the shimmering rainbow pendant Sarah gasps and murmurs that she shouldn't have, but she sits and runs her fingers over the precious ammolite again and again.
#43 - Nuance
Despite her best efforts, Sarah's just never been able to pick up on those fine nuances of social communication, so in the end it takes Jenny blatantly propositioning her for her to get it.
#32 - Sorrow
The lily grows from the swamp and good can rise from sorrow, this Claudia knows, but it takes Abby to show her.
#11 - Birthday
Some thing slimes her dress, yet again, she loses a shoe, several hair slides, and for a few seconds, consciousness, but curled up in bed later with Abby, after a long, hot bath and some of Abby's special hot chocolate, Jenny decides its the best birthday she's had in a long time.
#24 - Quarrel
Connor cringes as the door to Abby's flat slams shut and he doesn't risk looking to see the outcome of yet another of her and Jenny's quarrels.
#39 - Share
It is so typical, Abby thinks late at night, for Caroline to steal all the blankets.
#44 - Near
They gasp together and writhe together, breast pressed upon breast, and both are wondering how its possible to be so near someone and yet so far away.
#19 - Balcony
Claudia doesn't understand why Abby insisted upon them getting the room with a balcony across the courtyard from Lester until Lyle comes climbing up the side of the hotel and Lester meets him at the door.
#36 - Sordid
The best part of the view, in Claudia's opinion, is the litany of possibilities that Abby comes up with, murmuring the dirty fantasies softly in her ear.
#48 - Virtuous
When Sarah accuses them the next morning of having voyeuristic purposes for sitting out at all hours on the balcony, Claudia sniffs and protests that she and Abby are most virtuous.
