MORTAL LIABILITY Chapter 07

She stopped playing. “You hungry?” she asked, I nodded, and she jumped up and placed her guitar gently on its stand. She smiled “There isn’t much ‘real’ food here” she laughed “But if we’re lucky…we might find something” she continued, I laughed as well “Esme and Rosalie have no experience with real food” she smiled as we began our way down stairs.

All there was in the fridge was eggs, salmon, apples and orange jus. We cooked the salmon and sliced a couple apples. We poured ourselves some water. We ate in Sonia’s room. She set up an extra bed. I was surprised the Cullens had an extra mattress. Sonia insisted that I slept in the bed and she could sleep on the extra mattress on the floor. I couldn’t talk her off the idea.

She checked her watch “Oh, got to go” she said beginning to run to the door. “Wait! Do you need a ride?” I offered, she turned to face me “No-no, I’m ok. I’ll ride my bike” she smiled “Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m fine. I’ll be back in like…two hours” she said quickly. She ran out of the room. I heard the front door open and close. I sighed. Alone, for two hours, what will I do?

I decided to finish any homework I may have. When I did, I left Sonia’s room and started my way to Edward’s room. I missed him already. I longed for his presence, his cold skin on mine and his gorgeous eyes. I felt a little bit of guilt for letting him go hunt. But I knew this was something he needed to do. I stopped to stare once more at the old wooden cross that hung on the wall at the end of the hall. I stepped into Edward’s room. I studied his wide selection of music. I replayed the song he wrote for me over in my head. I wish he could be here to play it for me.

I sighed and left the room. I checked my watch. I had been alone for a little over an hour. I began my way down the stairs, maybe there was something for me to do down there.

I stopped and stared at a plain white envelope. My name was printed on it. I picked it up, extremely confused. Were did it come from? I looked at the envelope. I took it to the couch. I sat and opened it slowly. I found a note; the words were scribbled on to it, as if it was written in a rush. I read:

Bella,
I’m so sorry. I was against this entire situation from when I was first told. I truly don’t want to kill her. But I am what I am, and my family has been doing so for centuries. Just promise me not to come between my family and the girl. I can’t let you get hurt. It was a lot easier to be friends when we were both human, wasn’t it?
Sincerely,
Jacob

I could hardly make out what the letter said. Finally the answer I wanted hit me hard. I crumpled up the letter in my fist. My best friend was out to kill a little girl; whom I have come to think of as my friend. I didn’t feel much hate against Jacob before (when he got me in trouble with the motorcycles), but know I felt like stabbing a hole through his chest. Why would he do this? This was nothing like him! I ran to a phone and began dialing his number. I hung up when I heard the answering machine. I was furious.

I read the letter over and over again while I waited for Sonia to return, just so I didn’t miss read anything. Eventually I ripped it up. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I wiped it away. I want Edward.

I sighed and went back up into Sonia’s room. I passed her guitar. I found a book on her bedside table. I picked it up. It was a plain, old looking black book, maybe a journal? It must have been Sonia’s. I opened it. I couldn’t read it, it wasn’t English. I guess English wasn’t her original language. She probably thought in a different language too. I looked over the unknown markings. They were a hard scribble; I could tell she wasn’t happy writing in this Journal.

+Chapter eight was supposed to be apart of this chapter but I found it was to long, so I cut it. So the eighth chapter will be coming very soon. So look out for it and be sure to comment on this one...:)
