Natasha POV:

I woke up to little Lily jumping on me, one cold Sunday morning. I coughed when she landed on my stomach.
“Wake up!” she yelled, I groaned, and rolled over onto my stomach.
“Did Caleb make you do this?” I asked gently, she paused for a moment to figure out the question and search for words to reply with.
“Yes” she mumbled jumping off of me to put her hands around my wrist; she tried to pull me out.
“Lily, go tell Caleb to jump off a cliff” I instructed,
“Okay” she breathed and I heard her small footsteps across the wooden floor. I sighed and tried to sleep again.

I felt my blankets being yanked off. The cold air slammed into me, I groaned and curled into a ball.
“It’s your birthday, freak, get up” he said, I opened my eyes to look at him,
“No it’s not” I slurred, frowning. I searched for the right date in my head. Caleb sighed in disbelief.
“You must be delusional or something” he shook his head disappointedly.
“I’m tired, I get delusional” I yawned, searching blindly for the blankets.
“Well just come down anyway you have presents” he said
“It’s not my birthday!” I hissed, “Why would I have gifts?” I added.
“It is…you’re sixteen, it’s actually legal for you to drive now” he smiled, I sighed stubbornly.
“What day is it?” I asked, kinda hoping it wasn’t my birthday.
“January twenty fifth”
“It’s my birthday” I mumbled to myself. I stood up and grabbed a sweater from the end of my bed. I walked barefoot towards the ladder.
“You’re the only person I know who can forget their birthday” Caleb laughed a little at me, I slapped his arm.
“I’m tired, cold and there a lot of stuff on my mind right now. Plus I’m probably one of only people on this planet who thinks there’s more to life than getting older” I stated while climbing down the ladder.

When I reached the living room, I found Drew, Lily and Gypsy (our husky). Drew always had that…part of him that stood out more than the rest of him, he was always bitter, but I couldn’t blame him. He had a perfect life, and then because of us, it was ruined. He doesn’t really blame it on me or Caleb. He blamed it on Lily, Anthony and Aelphaba.

When they ran to Japan three years ago, Aelphaba took Lily to Italy instead of coming to save his family. Aelphaba didn’t even know she was supposed to help Drew out of this yet, when she got to Italy she was told and rushed to British Columbia, Canada. But by then it was too late to help Drew’s family, so she just took Drew with her, he was the youngest. It was a confusing time. And I somehow felt guilty because I could have helped. I was only thirteen, which was probably the reason why they didn’t let me go.

I sat down on the floor, leaning my back against the couch. Lily danced over and sat next to me. I pulled her onto my lap.
“What’s first” I sighed, Lily crawled out of my lap and lugged a large object wrapped in red paper. I took it and placed it on the floor in front of me. I already knew what it was. A guitar, I was exited. I ripped off the paper. It was a guitar and new acoustic, painted with twisted turquoise, plum (purple) and white stripes.  I haven’t seen anything like this.
“Mark painted it” Caleb said, I nodded my head, I began to play, “we paid for it” Caleb motion to Drew
“Thanks, its great” I thanked, tuning one of the strings and continuing to play.

Caleb got up and grabbed the guitar from me, “Hey!” I protested
“Don’t start playing, otherwise you won’t stop” he shrugged, I frowned. Lily got up again and brought me a long shiny black box. I frowned, wondering who it was from. I took it in my hands.  I searched for some card or tag.
“Who is this from?” I asked, looking up.
“Volterra” Caleb said a little conscious of his words. I closed my eyes for a second. I didn’t want to open it. I tapped my fingers on the surface. My fingerprints smudged the case.
“Well open it” Drew muttered, I shot him a hatful glare. He shrugged.
“So what it’s from Volterra, just open it” he hissed, I clenched my jaw. I thought about it for a moment, I could just send it back and show them, well more so only to Felix that I don’t care anymore.

I opened the case. The inside was coated with black velvet.  Rested upon it was a long, deep red rose. It was perfect in every way I could imagine. I stared at it for a moment. I snapped the case shut and dropped it to my side.
“I’m sending it back” I stated bitterly, my hands were fists now.
“Anything else or can I leave?” I sighed, Drew tossed me a package. It was wrapped in red silk. It was from Aelphaba, red silk was her thing. So she never tagged her packages. We knew by the packaging, I smiled a little. I slid it off and took out a picture.

My spirit lifted and my heart beat picked up the pace. It was a picture of my two siblings together, both were smiling. Anthony looked a little sick. I stared at in with utter disbelief. She found him. I couldn’t believe it. I forced myself to put the picture down and I took out a stiff envelope, I ripped it open and took out the letter.

Dearest Natty,
Hey there kid! Sixteen huh, you’re growing up too fast, soon you’ll be older than me! No worries. First of all I do wish you a very happy birthday. Next, why aren’t you here? Have you decided to quit me? You can’t escape that easily, you can’t hide from the Volturi. Demetri and me are doing fine, and Felix misses you too…please forgive him, if you don’t I might have to make you. I’m serious this time.
Now about Anthony, I know this is probably all you care about right now. He says hello, by the way. Felix found him in Spain. Now you have a good reason to talk to him, huh?
If you are willing to see him, you should fly over here for a week or two, I’m sure you’d both enjoy that.

Love,
Fabala

I dropped the letter and jumped up. I ran to the door and grabbed my helmet and rushed away to the hospital to find my Dad.

Bella POV:

I heard it, his voice; I found a way to make it come back. It was when I was reckless and stupid his voice rang out to me like velvet.

I sat with Jacob in the ER, my hand in his, while the doctor stitched up my forehead. Jacob finished the motorcycles today and he took me out and tried to teach me how to ride them. I fell and cut my forehead. But it was worth it to hear his voice again.

Jacob POV:

The doctor moved away from Bella, the needle in his hand.
“All done” he stated, Bella wrinkled her forehead and suddenly look nauseated. It was a little funny at first.
“Feel any better?” I asked, a bit of a smirk in my voice, she smiled up at me.
“I was fine in the first place” she said, I helped her up.

We walked outside again, but I paused for a minute to stare at another motorcycle parked in a wide space between two cars. It was a sweet ride, I had to admit. I began to walk on but Bella stopped me.
“I know that bike, Natasha’s here!” she laughed and moved closer to the bike.
“Who?” I questioned, she looked up at me.
“A new girl at my school, she moved in a week ago” she stated, she looked around to find some glimpse of her friend.
“Bella?” a different voice rang out, we both turned around. A complete stranger in a leather jacket stepped forward, her face lit up. But when she looked at me her face became suspicious and cautious. It was almost as if she was expecting something from me. It was the same look I got from Sam Uley. This frightened me. First my friends and people I know look at me like that, then complete strangers too! I didn’t like her.
“What are you doing here?” Bella said, her voice joyful, she ran forward to hug the girl. The girl continued to stare at me for another second. Then she smiled and looked at Bella.
“My dad works here” she said with some false enthusiasm, she had a very light, but funny accent. It was a bit amusing to listen to.  She was a pretty girl, full perfect lips and beautiful eyes. But I didn’t pay much attention to her looks.
“Why are you here?” The girl asked, glancing at me then back at Bella.
“I…was riding a motorcycle, and got hurt” Bella said running her finger over the stitches, the girl frowned, “it’s okay. I get hurt easily” she added, the girl nodded then smiled sarcastically.
“I didn’t know you owned a bike, you seem like the type who’d own one” she said, Bella rolled her eyes.
“Well you don’t look the type either, you’re too young” Bella shot back, the stranger’s smile stretched wider.
“I’m sixteen now, I’m aloud to ride it now” she stated happily, she glanced at me again with the same suspicion as before.
“Do you even have a license?” Bella asked, the girl looked away from me again and smiled a little.
“No” she shrugged, Bella turned to me again.
“This is Jacob, Jacob, Natasha” she introduced us, I held out a hand. This was Bella’s friend, it didn’t matter how much I…didn’t like this girl. The girl eyed my hand.
“Sorry I’m in a rush, I have to go” she said, walking quickly around Bella and me. I noticed she was careful not to get too close to me. She jumped on her bike and she was gone in seconds.
“Sorry Jacob, she’s not usually like that” Bella shook her head disappointedly. She shrugged.
“Let’s go” she sighed.
