Aeryn wasn't planning on checking the schedule when she left for the night, because she wasn't supposed to be on it at all. If Mark hadn't said "See you on Tuesday" as she was heading for the door, she wouldn't have turned back to go and check.
And once she did, she was hunting down Jerry, saying, "I have the week off."
"It wasn't approved," Jerry told her. "Andrea's got part of the week off and I need you around."
She stared at him, really wishing there weren't laws about weapons here. "I'm going to be on my honeymoon."
There was a long pause, and to be honest, Jerry probably didn't realize this. Aeryn didn't talk much about her personal life because she hated all of these people and didn't want them knowing much about her. They were lucky they knew this weekend was the wedding. "I can't change it now," he said. "You had two weekends ago, you have this weekend, and Andrea requested the time off first."
"I cover for Andrea at least once a week," Aeryn reminded him. "I've been working six-hour weeks, often double shifts, for months. I think I've earned this." She'd clearly been on Earth too long. She wouldn't have dreamed of saying this to Crais.
"There's nothing I can do about it, Aeryn."
She wasn't giving this one up. She still wasn't entirely sold on the whole marriage thing, but she recognized the tradition, and knew it made sense, and John wanted it, and she wasn't opposed, and damn it she had done too much work on this frelling thing. "I won't be here," she said stubbornly.
Jerry frowned and said slowly, "If you're not here on Tuesday, don't bother coming after that."
He probably didn't think she'd take him up on it, and she did hesitate. She didn't used to quit anything. She didn't even want to quit, and there were just too many reasons to stay.
And then she realized that she'd been frustrated here for months, and it had only gotten worse since homecoming, and she couldn't cancel the plans now. So she called his bluff. "Fine," she said, turning and heading out the door. And she'd have a couple of days before deciding whether or not she was coming back to a job.
