Casi Cielo Coarse Grinds

The power of the Internet. You say something good, it stays there forever. Likewise, you say something bad, it stays there forever too. You can't stop people, you can't contain them. Try it and it might just go viral. You cannot hide forever. Your misdeeds will always come to light somehow via the Internet.

Dear Starbucks, I just visited the store located at Suntec Convention Centre because my friend and I saw your FB posts of the Lunar New Year dragon merchandise.

When I purchased a bag of Casi Cielo beans, the lady at the counter asked if I would like them grounded and I said yes, for a press please. And I added on that I think it should be the coarsest grind on the machine, to which she promptly replied in a very curt tone that it is not the coarsest. I shrugged my shoulders since she would probably know more about coffee and bean grinders better than me.

She asked if I would like my cup of coffee now and I was happy to enjoy the Casi Cielo brew while waiting for my beans. I was handed a Grande paper cup to my surprise because I remember it used to be a Tall sized drip coffee. When I enthusiastically introduced the drink to my friend, she removed the lid and we starred at a pretty dilute-looking cup of coffee. Nevertheless, we proceeded to try the coffee and it turned out awfully diluted and bland. If my memory hasn't failed me, I remember drinking this coffee a year or two back and I remember how much I liked this blend. This didn't taste anything like what I had before.

Shortly after, I got my bag of beans and decided to check the grinds. It was definitely not a coarse grind. I wanted to check with a barista, but all 5 of them were engaged with the queue of 6 customers so I lingered for a while to wait until someone was available. Even though I stood a couple of minutes in front of the food case display, no one acknowledged me, so we decided to head in toward another Starbucks store to seek a second opinion.

When I arrived at the Starbucks store at Suntec Tower 2, I was greeted by a warm atmosphere and an inviting bookshelf. I asked the barista to take a look at the grinds and determine if I had received coarse grinds. He promptly walked out to the beans for sale and grabbed another bag of Casi Cielo. I told him I would walk back to the store at the Convention Centre to have them replaced, but he said that it was ok and he would replace the bag for me. This time, he only put a handful of beans through the grinder and let me take a look and feel them, and then proceed to pour the rest of the contents into the grinder after I was ok with the grind size.

I also told him about the awful cup of coffee we got and he offered us another cup. We only wanted a Tall size and that's what he gave. This time, there was definitely some taste in the coffee and at least my friend who was trying Casi Cielo for the first time enjoyed it.

Thank you Nazrul for making it most convenient for us and for allowing my friend to have a nice cup of great tasting coffee. He certainly changed the somewhat bad experience into a delightful one and I will return to the store at Tower 2 instead of the Convention Centre if I am in Suntec.

To the lady who responded to me, I think there was no need to be so curt. I looked at the grinder setting and saw French Press, but if there is something wrong with the grinder, then you should either increase the grind setting or have the machine recalibrated. That was definitely not a coarse grind at all.

Please consider looking into this. Thank you.
