Time to fangirl about something else for a change - movies.
I do indeed fangirl about animated films (why else am I going to work in the industry? xp) and I feel like sharing that love and fangirlism with ya'll right now xD
So, here are some things you can look forward to in the up-coming months and years~
Some of these films have official dates but these could change, so until I see the official trailer I'm just giving you a time frame lol:
Disney Animation Studios
Their next animated movie is titled Tangled, set to be released in November of this year.
The original title was Rapunzel, making this another Disney Princess film, but well....
The Princess and the Frog wasn't as successful as the studios hoped it would be (great film but it did lack a certain finesse that Disney films are known to have had, especially in the Disney Renaissance era) and the company believes it's because the movie having "princess" in the title drew away young boys from watching the film. So to boraden the appeal, they've changed the title and the protagonist has been shifted to the male lead instead of the princess herself.
.. Yeah, wierd business and marketing changes there. But we'll see if it fares better or not
By the way, this is Disney's 50th animated film (woo)
Edit: Okay LJ is being a bitch with the trailers, so here are links instead =____=
Tangled Trailer Other Disney films being worked on are:
* Winnie the Pooh (set for spring-summer 2011), which will revolve on previous tales that haven't been adapted as of yet. It's also in the traditional 2D style (yay!)
* King of the Elves (set for 2013), based on Philip K. Dick's short story 'The King of the Elves' and will also be in 2D. The idea was scrapped last year but it seems they've changed their minds =]
Pixar
* Cars 2, set for summer 2011. Personally I don't think Cars needs a sequel, but Disney has the reigns and they just love milking everything for what it's worth lol
* Brave (originally titled The Bear and the Bow), set for summer 2012. This is also the first Pixar film with a female lead and she will be a Disney Princess
* Monster's Inc. 2 set for fall 2012. Again, another film I don't think needs a sequel but considering the ending of the film is ambiguous enough to create one, it's okay by me :3
* There was going to be a film called Newt and it would have been released in 2012, but it seems the movie has been scrapped =\
Dreamworks Animation
* Megamind, coming this November~
... I love Will Ferrell, so besides how the film looks I'm happy xD I also pat myself on the back for predicting the kind of story it is.. boo-ya~
Megamind Trailer Other upcoming films from Dreamworks:
* Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom is set for summer 2011
* Puss in Boots (also called Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer) set for winter 2011. Another franchise that will never die xD
* Madagascar 3, set for summer 2012
* The Guardians of Childhood, set for winter 2011
* How to Train Your Dragon 2, set for a summer 2013 release. Personally, I don't want them to franchise the heck out of this movie T^T..
* And either The Croods, Truckers (based on Terry Pratchett's The Bromeliad Trilogy), or Boo U (formerly Super Secret Ghost Project) for winter 2012
Blue Sky Studios
You know, the studio that brought you Ice Age :p
* Rio, set for spring 2011
Rio Trailer Other Blue Sky films include:
* Ice Age: Continental Drift set for summer 2012
* The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs and Spore have no release dates as of yet
Animal Logic
The guys that brought you Happy Feet :3
* Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole will be released this September~ Is it just me, or does it feel like Elijah Wood is the main owl Soren? (he's not, but it feels like it lol)
Also, I freaking love you 30 Seconds to Mars *_____*
Guardins of Ga'Hoole Trailer Lastly, all of you who watch Avatar: The Last Airbender (and not that godforsaken live-action adaptation by M Night >___<;;;), if you don't know already, there is an upcoming spin-off of the series titled Avatar: The Legend of Korra, set for 2011.
Even though it takes place 75 years after the original plot and the cast is practically all new, I'm still excited for it
*jumps around*
Oh, there's also talk of a sequel to the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Warner Bros. is bringing back the Looney Tunes with a couple of 3D shorts staring Wile. E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, and a new Looney Tunes series for this fall, though the characters style has changed a bit. The first 3D short with Coyote and Roadrunner is being shown before that Cats and Dogs movie so.. if you manage to watch it and then duck out of the theaters when the actual movie starts, tell me how it goes :D
And that is my animation post for a while LOL
