Looks like I've settled back into the old sleep schedule again. I couldn't sleep last night, so after lying restless in the dark for a couple of hours, I started writing some lyrics. Got a couple of verses down, then abandoned it. There's a note on the page after that saying "Mansun have already covered this kind of thing much better than I have. I guess 'Passing Time' will never be recorded...'

Half an hour later, I was downstairs, strumming my electric, recording the intro to Passing Time.

I went to bed at 10am with about half of the song completed. Woke up at 5:30pm, showered, went downstairs and finished it off. All it needs now is some EQ-tweaking. It's kinda cool - sort of laid-back rock, different from my normal style. The first song in which I actually wrote the lyrics beforehand =)

I wish I had a better voice. I've got a comfortable range of maybe an octave. Outside that, my voice warbles and scratches, and although I can get up an additional octave singing in falsetto, it doesn't sound particularly good. Perhaps I should actually think of my vocal range when I'm writing a song... usually I design my song so the base chord is either E minor or D minor, which lets me use the guitar comfortably for powerchords and stuff.

Changing track totally, I've finalised the move to this server ('Charlie', fuzzie's new webserver) so http://mirrorshades.zall.org/ will now access the site directly, while http://mirrorshades.codevault.org/ is an automatic forward. This gives me a few advantages - for one, I can actually fit my entire URL into an ID3v1 comments box when I'm tagging my MP3s =) Also, it's nice to have all my stuff on a single box, instead of spanning two boxes, and since I actually know the server owner, I have a somewhat higher level of access to do stuff with. And since I talk to him on IRC all the time, if it breaks, I can bitch and moan at him immediately, instead of having to send an email and wait a while for a reply from a guy I've never actually talked to, which was the situation with the old server: the owner was a user of a forum which I'd long since departed. I also felt slightly guilty about taking up 100Mb of space on his server, since the hosting he provided was done solely as a favour to the Megatokyo forum community.
