Yay, the new router works nicely. Only took a couple of minutes to plug it in, untangle ethernet cables and plug them in, then run around setting clients to DHCP (I'd used static IPs under Linux.) A couple more minutes setting up WEP, and I was all set ( Read more... )

Ooh, sounds handy. I'm still somewhat leery of firmware flashing, however - given that that was how I bricked my last router...

Just assign the machines fixed addresses from the range that the router hands out. Make sure to choose them from the top of the range to avoid collisions. It's worked for me on two different Linksys wireless products.

Yeah, ended up doing that. Oddly enough, though, the machine on which that was set (my Linux box) appears to have reverted to DHCP ... I'll have to poke at it.
