it's that once a year.

After walking a long distance from Ateneo to Ministop to save a few coins, and arriving at SM Marikina in a cramped jeep, I entered the edifice with not much but a high spirit. I could not wait to buy gifts for my GK family, and by GK family, i mean James and his lola (oh lordy, i forgot nanay's name! how could i? *sob*). To put it plainly, I only had a few bills to spare. Maybe more bills for the budget of two people, but just not enough for THE Christmas shopping. Nonetheless, I was hyped up!

So with Crystal and Ruz, i went to the department store and started choosing for both nanay and James. I was done paying for what i intended to buy when the prospect of buying gifts for the barkada came into the picture. Oh no, major financial booboo, i was super not prepared! But picking the hoodie with the cutest print for Faina, and the wise bag package for Al Marie was enough for me to feel the Christmas spirit of giving. It was enough for me to actually think, with every store we enter, about people i hold dear and the best Christmas gift for them. Which is weird, because days and days ago, i never imagined buying material things. I was way contended with giving my friends and family letters. And so i blame Crystal and Ruz for the peer pressure! Kidding. We, yes, you and I, know it is more than that.

It's been years since i actually thought about sacrificing my own wants to make way for Christmas presents. I can't help it if i'm financially challenged right now, but, really, we all know there's some way to extracting money out of...somewhere. But really. If i were just a liiitle more generous, then i can give mommy a bottle of her favorite pefume, or tatay a framed picture of the family. But, oh well, it's still not too late. I just ought to keep in mind this equation:

SERIOUS DIETING = SERIOUS FLOW OF CASH
Haha! Cash or no cash, letters or "gifts", I'm just glad i'm starting to feel the Christmas season already. I can't wait for simbang gabi! Gift wrapping! Letter writing! And, my favorite of all, togetherness.
