Second to last batch! We'd all like to thank you guys for really taking the time to vote on the last round. As of now, almost all of the apps in that batch have at least 50 votes. Way to go, and keep it up for just a little bit more ( Read more... )

... j-just so everybody knows I do read applications I don't just go "heehee, IN OUT IN OUT it's like sex". Just to prove it if you want crit I'll shake it all about for you. I'm not doing the hokey cokey with you, though -- kay the joke's gone too far yeah okay I'M TIRED.

First of all, I'm canon-blind, so. Maybe some of these are all part of Recca's voice, but there were the things that irked me.

-TOO MUCH CAPSLOCK. If you overuse it's the lower-case things that end up getting attention, and that's likely not the effect you want.
-It felt like you were pushing your jokes. There wasn't a solid gag, it was just ticking the ol' CFUD boxes.
-I can't judge your voice, as I don't know your canon, but it felt to me like the voice was fragmented, not quite solid in my own... head. To be fair, it's the wee hours of the morning and I'm tired, so perhaps if I get up tomorrow and this round's still open I'll reassess, but I get the feeling I'd stand by my no.

PRIMARY ADVICE: if you aren't already, use a canon-blind beta as well as a canon one. Make it funny for everyone, not just those who know your character. Uhm. I think. I COULD BE WRONG, everyone else will decide, I might be crazed.

Sure! And I'd like to take this moment to apologize, as I'm really quite terrible with crit.

Now, I don't vote based on format, but as a personal quirk, I'm not terribly fond of applications with a diary format. I have to admit it was a little bit of a turn-off for me.

I didn't get much of a sense of his voice from the canon. I'm not entirely canon-blind, but I don't have a strong sense of familiarty of any of the characters beyond the chuunin exams early on, outside of the cast we currently have in camp. I know describing voice is difficult, and you did touch on it a little, but I would have liked a little more to go off of.

The biggest problem that I'm not hearing a very strong voice within the app itself. Does that make any sense? It's not that there's nothing at all, just that I'd like to see something with a little more meat to it.
