Admittedly, some religions don't practice the belief of Hell as the ultimate place of punishment, or even in the idea of Heaven, but the typical definition, as many believe, is that they go hand in hand. You can't have heaven without hell. Of course, what gets you there, what defines these places ... changes. The interesting part is where these places exist as a concept without the Judeo-Christian background.

Which is probably not the answer you were looking for. I believe in them because I've been to both, but I did before that.
