[today a large silver thing shooting up into the sky might catch your eye. maybe it's a rocket or a giant silver humanoid if your eyes are really good. it quickly dwindles in the distance --
and then is returning to earth at the same ridiculous speed it attempted to leave in. it vanishes from sight and you might feel the ground shake slightly under your feet and hear a faint boom in the distance.
if you decide to go investigate the cloud of dust in the air, you'll find a decent-sized crater among the corn and a young man doing his best to climb out of it.
or you could ignore it and go about your business]
