It turns out they're players after all! Yuki-- ah, Ruka, well... a lot of things happened, and I thought he was Yuki at first, but they're the pawns. Confusing, right?

Not really. I thought it might have been something like that when Yuki mentioned that they traded places. I was unaware as to what chess piece they symbolized though.
