[The mess hall certainly looks different today. Each table is filled with different types of wine, and plenty of glasses. There are even discreetly placed spittoons around the room.

By the reds there is a gentleman, slowly swirling the wine in his glass]

The purpose of an event such as this is to encourage positive reviews of the vintage and encourage purchases of the wine. One bottle might be wasted, but to the benefit of the company.
