[You guessed it, the location is in the mess hall.]

Where is this local "tuesday soup" delicacy I've heard so much about? Bring it to me at once. I wish to try it immediately.

((ETA: winding dowwwwwwwnnnnnn))

Okay, I haven't been here that long, but I can tell you that that's probably not the best idea.

[Looking her up and down. It's like a mini-me.]

... Explain.

I had a little chat with it, and it told me that it wasn't really supposed to be soup. Well, considering the eyes and fingers I found in it, that wasn't a surprise.

You can communicate with soup? ... Surely that makes the eating of it a little difficult.

Not really. It's a little difficult to explain, but most food wants to be eaten. That's what its purpose is; to provide nutrition and sustenance so that other things may live. Except that soup is... all sorts of wrong.

I see.

Are you a sorceress, then? You're rather young.

I'm a wizard, not a sorceress. And that's how it works.

Your pardon, I don't understand the difference. Perhaps Garion might, but as he is not here, you will have to explain.

I'm not sure how it works in your world, but in mine, there's a notable difference. Wizards perform things at a cost, and there are strict rules and regulations. I could detail every characteristic of it, but I can tell neither of us would enjoy that. Sorcery, where I'm from, denotes getting something for nothing, or almost nothing. It's much more mystical and not nearly as practical.

I see. In that case, wouldn't sorcery be more practical, rather than less?

In your world, who does sorcery benefit, overall? If you can answer that.

[Somewhat loftily] I wouldn't know. I'm not a sorcerer. I dare say that everything that Belgarath and Polgara do is done to ensure the continuing destiny of the world, however.

[rolls her eyes] Of course. Why would you need to know anything about stuff other people do?

But if that's the case, then they may be more analogous than I thought, but we work a little more broadly.

I see. [Except not really, but not going to admit that.]

And yet not even a wizard can open this barrier? ... Well, you're still young, I suppose, perhaps you've yet to grow in to your powers.

Doesn't really work that way, and I'd really appreciate if you stopped condescending to me because I'm slightly younger than you. Thanks.

I'll speak however I please.
