ITP: FRENCH STUFF

Jul 14, 2009 20:03

[Today in camp, there is celebration! Strains of La Marseillaise drift through the air and there is tri-colored bunting hanging about a nice spot outside, where there are tables and chairs and all things French! Wine and cheese! Croissants! Baguettes! Berets! French literature! Zombie heads on pikes ( Read more... )

[inspecting the food]

It looks delicious, but is it safe to eat? It's still Tuesday, after all.

That applies as an absolutely unbreakable rule only to the regular mess hall food. What I have observed being consumed here appears to be safe.

That's a relief to know.

[pours herself a glass of wine]

Thank you for putting out this spread. If it was you, I mean.

It was not. For once, camp seems to have decided upon a mostly appropriate commemoration.

You are a new counselor, correct?

It's being kind to us for once. If you ignore the cows.

I am. Peggy Olson, Camp Activities Promoter.

I am Enjolras.

It seems that you have already grasped the basic character of this place. How did you come to be hired here?

I'm not sure. No one I asked seems to know how they came to camp, either.

But I was able to find a job here where I could apply my skills. At least there's that. Being busy helps me keep my mind off... the rest of this.

There are some who have, as you have experienced, arrived here through mysterious means. Others were brought here by force or lured by fraudulent means. And there are those few who have come here by their own free will, making voluntary deals with the Director.

Exactly what camp activities are you promoting?

A barbecue, the other day. I've been exploring camp while I wait for my next assignment.

What do you do here?

For a long time following my arrival, I worked to learn more about this camp in order to find a way to escape it. As much as it chagrins me to admit, however, one's chances of leaving this camp before the camp itself decides to allow it are very poor. I have therefore been striving to use the Director's depraved project to my advantage as best as possible, learning and exploring that which I could not in my native world and time.

Camp tends to not be particularly hospitable toward explorers.

I found it better to just keep to my work, but I'm still meeting a lot of people.

Are you from France?

Paris, 1828. And you?

New York in 1962.

It looks like camp can take in anyone from any time period. I've seen non-human people, too.

Most are from times relatively close to the present time in camp or from far in the future or far in the past; there are also those from times that have no relation to time on earth.

And there are those who are human only in appearance.

Are any of them truly dangerous, do you know?

There are dangerous individuals here, though that hardly depends on their particular species or variation thereof. Most here are good people, and of those who are not, most -- though not all -- find it to their advantage not to create undue trouble. Have you been informed about moogles and saving?
