Global Thermonuclear War is an old classic.

It's from an old movie. A scientist creates a computer for the military, but it thinks that a Global Thermonuclear War is a game it has to win. They defeat it by making it play games of tic-tac-toe against itself until it realizes there are games you cannot win.

The alternative way to play it is of course, to see who can lose the least badly in simulations. There was an actual game with that as the object, called DEFCON.
