[remember those funny seashells from a few days ago? well, they're still on the beach. except this time, there is a hobo sitting near them, keeping an eye on them, the lake itself, and on anyone who happens to walk by. he is also pecking at his keyboard very, very slowly.]

There are multiple possibilities. ... but it's most likely that they were attracted. They've probably been here for a while already, before they even came up on shore.
