I forget how quickly the years fly by in this place. Has it been a year already? It felt like only yesterday I was tripping over the hem of my formal robes, forgetting I'd access to a horse so that I could return to my home more quickly and efficiently.
No, I had to run in a garment that made running impossible. I'd always prided myself on my efficiency, and there I was, making a complete ass of myself!
I suppose had I taken the horse, I would have actually made it home in time to see my son when he entered the world. Instead, I'm still here in Louisiana, and there's a little boy in Third Century Wu who is celebrating his first birthday.
It would be natural for me to be at least somewhat upset that I am missing so much back home, but I am nearly one hundred percent positive that when I return home some day in the future, I will have only been gone for a few moments, at most. Which would give me plenty of time to catch up the time I'd missed with my family.
And plenty of time for me to be the butt of jokes from every civil official who watched me run out of that ill-fated meeting like a madman on fire.
Until then, I suppose I can keep my dignity a while longer. At least, until camp strips me naked, the gorillas attempt to copulate with me, a young boy eats my hat, or my comrades blindfold me, tie me to a pole, and throw a cephalopod at my face. ...Again, I mean.
Cheers, Camp Fuck You Die. May the coming year be as interesting as the last, and may we have many tall tales to tell on our returns to our respective worlds.
