N-no, an actual sword. He's practising a few moves with it; he's not awful, but he's not terribly good, either. It's been a while since he fenced. The sword itself glitters oddly... or maybe that's just the light

But if you wanted to show me how to hold it properly, I'd appreciated. Haven't used something like this in a while.

Here. [Moves over so he can put his hand over Jack's] Just a fraction more to the right, like this, see? It's only a tiny detail, but it's easier on your wrist.

And that's perfectly understandable. They're not exactly the weapon of choice these days, are they?

[shifts his grip. hey that is easier!]

Thanks. And it's not usually my weapon of choice, either, but I figured since I have it, might as well practice. You like swords?

I'm not sure if "like" is the right word of choice, here. I was just brought up around them, that's all.

[captaincy]

I guess that gets you used to them. Where were you brought up? Like you said, they're not that common.

[count_onme]

I lived all my life in Paris until about six months before coming here. Ah, that's in France, if you're not familiar with this world... you can never be sure with people here. Though I'm not from this time.

[captaincy]

No, I know Paris. Been there myself a couple of times... what year are you from?

Oh, that's a relief.

Well... this may be a bit of a surprise, but I'm actually from 5054. I know, it's really far off. And I haven't really met anyone else here who's from anywhere near three thousand years in the future, either, except the three people here that I know from home.

[captaincy]

...Earth, 5054?

[count_onme]

[Nods] That's right.

[captaincy]

You're about thirty years ahead of when I grew up.

...Do you know who won the war?

[count_onme]

--Wait, what. Really?

... It's... it's still going on.

[captaincy]

I travelled a long way to get away from that war.

[count_onme]

[Shakes head]

You aren't the only one. But... now I'm not so sure if that was the right choice.

It was. It had to be done. If it was still going...

I sometimes thought I should go back, but by the time I could have I was stuck in the 21st century.
