ITP: Camp has a strange sense of humor

Jul 09, 2008 11:54

[So, here is an AI in both laptop and robot form in the Mess Hall. She is not looking at a metal doughnut in the center of the table. In fact she is not looking so hard it seems rather obvious that she would rather be anywhere but at this table with this metal doughnut thingy ( Read more... )

[talking in stereo, computer and the Avatar]

If it blows up this thing without energizing any of it's components enough to trigger it and kill every organic sentient for a thousand kilometers? Sure, I'll say that's worth quite a bit to me right now.

Thermal detonators, maybe?

Not familiar with those. But if they don't have much of a electrical pulse, it might be worth a shot.

Nah, just enough to trigger the explosion itself. After that, it's all heat.

Just where'd you find something like this, anyway?

[picking it up very carefully]

It's a scaled down version of a strategic weapon from my own universe. I was examining a data archive that belonged to the creators of the full sized variety. I'm not sure how, but it seems that Camp was able to get at that data and replicate this from it. When I 'woke up', it was waiting for me.

And EMP is nobody's friend around it, huh?

Once it builds enough charge in it's superconductors, it automatically discharges as near as I can tell. There doesn't seem to be anything to stop it from firing once it has enough power to do so on this version. And I don't want to risk charging it enough to trigger even a partial detonation. These things are deadly to all life.

There goes half the swamp.

And maybe the Moogles as well. I don't think they can bring back anyone if they're gone as well.

Shall we find someplace with enough clear blast radius for your detonator?

That'd make sense. This is where extra lives would sure come in handy.

We just need about five meters.

Might be best to do this in the woods, if we can locate a clearing big enough. Don't want to risk it if this thing makes shrapnel fragments..

There's plenty of cover out there.

Still. The last time I messed around with one of these things I wound up cutting my own ship in half. Can't be too careful.

That's some explosion.

Not an explosion. It went off just as we were about to enter slipspace and disrupted the transition. We dropped out safely outside the range of the pulse, but I was only able to determine that we were a long long way from home. Years at the least.
