In the messhall

Are you sure it's edible?

I suppose we could feed it to passerbys and find out.

I guess it should be safe as long as we follow the recipe...

((If you're passing by the mess hall, you may notice two boys attempting to cook one of camp's famed toucans. You should stop by and try some. Is the toucan really edible? who knows! Blue is Ike, black is ( Read more... )

They're a bit stringy, but edible enough, I should think. Though camp does have a tendency to interfere.

You've eaten them before?

Are toucans a protected species in camp?

During the period when the mess hall was destroyed, certainly.

Well, as to that, they generally protect themselves. Most consider them rather a nuisance.

We did have a difficult time capturing them. They seemed to have a kind of pack mentality.

Since there were so many of them, it seemed alright to take a few down.

They communicate psychically, generally. There's certainly no shortage of them.

They are able to communicate with each other?

As any group of animals might. Some are more intelligent, but I nearly think you would have realized if you had encountered them.

I see. I was wondering if they had been Laguz before, even though that didn't seem to be the case.

They're too small to be from the Hawk tribe, anyway.

I'm not familiar with the term.

Laguz are people back from my world who were able to change into animal forms.

Ah. Well, I can nearly assure you that the toucans have only the one shape.

I don't believe I've had the honor?

That's good to hear.

I'm Ike, commander of the Greil Mercenaries. You've met Soren before?

Morrolan e'Drien, of the House of the Dragon; a pleasure. I've had that honor, yes.

House of the Dragon, huh? Is it just a Noble name, or are you related to dragons?

Well, as to that, it's both, as I understand. My species is the result of experimentation by a race called the Jenoine; one of their experiments was to mingle the genetic code of certain animals with the human base, and the results are as you see.

You seem normal enough to me. Does something like that ever bother you?
