Broken ribs was the least of the problems they could cause. I'm amazed at what people sometimes do for the sake of fashion.

Steep prices and health risks. That's practically burning the candle at both ends, right?

Yeah. And given what they did they must have been really painful to wear. I, for one, am glad things like that went out of fashion. It says here that way back when French noblemen used to wear high heels.

And hard to eat too. Corsets constricted the digestive tract so much that women who wore them for years ended up with horrible problems.

It was in among my textbooks. It's actually pretty interesting to read, for a history book.
