Since not everyone knows exactly how the community came to be suspended and then restored, I decided that it would be pertinent to share the request log between myself and the Abuse Team in the most public manner possible. No, F_W, nothing happened. Bad dog for believing otherwise! No spooge-biscuit. >:(

Dear user,

Our system administrators were forced to suspend your community, because the number of tags you were using was causing serious performance problems for the entire database your journal was located on. To preserve the LiveJournal experience for all the other users on that database, our admins were forced to suspend your journal. You aren't in violation of the Terms of Service by doing this, but suspending your community is the only way we can prevent the account from affecting the site as a whole.

Our engineers are working on a way to keep large numbers of tags from impacting LiveJournal's database performance, but we can't guarantee how long it will take before they resolve this issue. If you'd like to have your communityunsuspended more quickly, you can go to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/tags.bml?authas=campfuckudie and delete all your tags. Once you've done that, please let us know, and we'll unsuspend the community.

Regards,
Scott

As far as I recollect, the campfuckudie community has actually never used tags in any of its entries before. Did you mean campersfuckoff, its sister community? Just in case, one of the co-moderators did just delete a few tags in the campersfuckoff community to help with the situation and its database. In the case of the original campfuckudie community, however, I seem to be unable to access tag management for it, and neither can any of the co-moderators.

But thank you very, very much for getting back to me so quickly on the issue. Your help really means a lot to all of the community's members! <3

I'm very sorry for the delay in getting back to you about this; the only information given to us previously is that your community was temporarily suspended due to heavy tag usage. Because you pointed out that your community didn't have any tags, I needed to check with our systems administrators to see what the problem was before unsuspending your account. I apologize for taking so long to do so.

It appears that an entry located in your community http://community.livejournal.com/campfuckudie/3248641.html is reaching the "comment thread limit" (mentioned at http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=62&view=full) several times, and it's taking a very long time for our databases to render this page. We'll be able to unsuspend your community once you delete this entry (by going directly to http://www.livejournal.com/editjournal.bml?journal=campfuckudie&3248641 and deleting it there).

I'm again very sorry for the necessity of this action. As an apology for the serious hardship caused by this, LiveJournal administrators will also be granting your community one month of paid time. Please let us know when you delete the entry, so that your community can be unsuspended.

Regards,
Scott

No worries! I understand that the Abuse Team is a seperate part of Livejournal's workforce and that communication with other departments is necessary to better understand any issue. Any inconvenience is worth the restoration of the community, I promise you. Also, the month of paid time is very generous! Thank you. <3

After trying with three seperate moderator accounts in my control, I found that I could not edit any entry in the campfuckudie community. After checking archived comment replies in my mailbox, I was able to find and contact the original poster and request that they try to delete the post from their end. They were also unable to edit the entry.

The FAQ says, that "in most cases, users whose journals have been suspended will be unsuspended and provided with a limited time window in which to correct the violations of the Terms of Service." I understand that the single post in question is apparently capable of dragging down the entire database, but in light of the fact that I have several hundred members with paid accounts to be used specifically in this community, I'm requesting that my moderators and I be allowed a small window of opportunity to delete the entry in question.

And afterward, I will murder the community members who thought it would a brilliant idea for the community to have received exactly 3,333,333 comments by New Year's. (eta: okay this is obviously a huge lie, KEEP TRYING, GUYS)

I'm very sorry -- our manually-constructed URL to delete the entry was wrong. Can you delete the entry if you go to http://www.livejournal.com/editjournal.bml?journal=campfuckudie&itemid=3248641 ?

Helen
