Actually, it's a nitpicky thing, but most icons come out either as jagged or unclear. And uh. Things like this bother me a great deal for no reason. D8<

...both of those examples look pretty okay to me. But in any case, when I do icons I do a lot of tweaking of contrast as using "unsharp mask" to various degrees and sometimes editing/touching up things by hand.

Also when resizing stuff, I'll do it in stages. Like... if my original image is 300x300 pixels, I won't drop it all the way to 100x100 at once, generally, but maybe shrink it down to 200x200, then again to a slightly off number like 140x140, and then to 100x100. This gives me a chance to do another unsharp mask or adjust contrast or whatever's needed as I go, and I find that sometimes stuff resizes better if I don't directly go from nice clean numbers like 200x200 straight to 100x100. Do the inbetween stages sometimes makes the lines and colors go together better.

...of course, even so there's some cases that just can't be helped, but that's what I do, at least.
