Okay, people. Apps open...sometime, if info serves. sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. >.>;. Usually, I’d say WHORE AWAY like everyone else, but for a change of pace, I figured some protips would be a nice order of the day for folks who’d like the help.
This is a good way to start (and is the most recent one I have in my memories--anyone is more than welcome to find a much more recent post). I'd have a lot of general tips, but I'll just go on the one thing I rant about the most: canon.
You're canon's there to inform. Some of us skim over them, some of us don't read them until after, some of us ignore completely to see if the app can stand without assistance. Whatever the voter's habit, you still want that canon section there to inform. So, some general tips for people uncertain or pressed for a good way to write a canon section.
- Two paragraphs is a good start. One for story background, one for characteristics and demeanor of who you're aping.
- Interesting as the series can be, the characterization should take priority over bogging down your canon section with all kinds of background info and storyline.
- Spoilers are, nine times out of ten, usually not necessary, no matter the series.
- Remember that this is the point where you want to show you have a base understanding of the character you're apping. So the ABCs are plenty fine (and almost necessary for tricky personalities).
- Check your tags. Most hyperlinks would look neater behind one or two words than a long bar. Also be wary of those stray font and italics tags.
- If you have an idea of it, be sure to leave a note as to where your character is being taken from in canon. This actually helps out a lot more than is usually shown.
- Leave room for interpretation notes. Like if your character has some funny habit or connotation about them (habitual suffixes, quirky sayings, whathaveyou)
- Profit. :D
And before we open ze floor, some personal outlook:
I, myself, am always more interested in a standard Background/Characterization in canon, as opposed to anything extraordinary. That way, I can get a basic grasp of how that person could or should sound to me during the app. I favor more details on the character than the background info, since I usually always depend on other sources to sell me on a series. So knowing that Hinata Hyuuga has a problem with her meekness is more important to me than knowing she comes from the main branch of the Hyuuga Clan. Both define her, but one defines her a little more intimately than the other, and detail is what you'll be going for in your app, right?
Okay spewed enough opening the floor now. also turning off notifications in case y'all DO start whoring. >.>
