Soap Box (But Good News- Soap is Discounted)

You know I only get on my soapbox (soap box?) once or twice a year. So bear with me.

From today's New York Times:

"A study conducted by several economists, and presented at a conference held by Wal-Mart last fall, found that after the company's arrival in a county, total earnings for workers, retail and nonretail, fell 2.5 percent to 4.8 ( Read more... )

1.) I agree, but as a sad and worthless pathetic person, I often put convenience ahead of my principles. However, more often than not, I'm at Target.

2.) This...
Here in Arizona, the majority of Wal-Mart employees are on government subisidized healthcare (AHCCCS) because those who actually do qualify for benefits can't afford them because of lower wages. Who pays for that? You do. So that discount you get on shampoo and bruised apples and really, really unfortunate fashion options...well you pay that back in spades.
is the best thing evar said anywherez!!!! Seriously, I love it. That should be a letter to the editor. Of...something.

3.) Having worked for Mercy Care Plan, which directly handles people on ACHHHHHSSEESSSSSS or however one spells that...I have to mention something. MCP's ...propaganda video...showcased some of the members they serve...and one of these girls...who couldn't have been a day over 20 I'd swear, is sitting on a park bench next to her Case Manager, saying how if it wasn't for (case manager), I couldn't have made it through the birth of my 5th child.

I just about shat myself in the middle of the presentation. It was all I could do not to yell out something to the effect of "Where's the collection bucket to get this person spayed?" or "Give me her address...I'll hand deliver the condoms..."

Anyways...yeah - people on AHCCCS...shouldn't really be allowed to breed, IMO. If you're too poor to pay for your own health care, then you're way too poor to fuck, IMO.

But then again, I'm a complete asshole, so...

Welcome back! Missed ya tons.

But the point is people with jobs at Walmart shouldn't have to be on AHCCCS in the first place. Target employees don't have to be on AHCCCS.

My friend works for Mercy Care, and she says the exact same thing. I'm not sure how to address it though. I mean, I think this country is still a few years away from mandated sterilization. :-) Unfortunately.

I understand AHCCCS for the working poor though, and I gladly pay my tax dollars with those folks in mind. The ones who work everyday, and still don't earn enough to support their families do deserve my support. I do NOT however, believe that a corporation that earns billions of dollars in profits and is one of the most successful and wealthiest organizations in the WORLD should have employees who make up a portion of the working poor. That's unacceptable.

I do think there are a great many people, a GREAT many, who milk the system for what's its worth, and having more children is one way to do that.

Hooray Target.

Thanks! It's nice to be back. Thanks for saying that.
