Goodness and Badness

The better half is in Noumea for two weeks. This leaves me at a loose end, in the care of my neighbour and peer group. On Thursday I discovered just how much they cared.

Slow arvo at work, we knock off about 4.30. Get on the Merlot out the back till about 6. Then head home, discovering a text from the neighbour: "who likes the Rolling Stones best, you or Eric?" The obvious answer is me, but I realise too late that Eric has infiltrated the neighbour's house ahead of me. So me and other cool lawyer from work (I'm the cool lawyer from work) who's come around to listen to Black Dog (later I realise to my horror that I don't own that track) crack out some more vino tinto at the neighbour's.

She then has to go out with a friend, to whom I tell my appendix story (see below) and show my scars (see my belly). By this time I have got well out of hand, but with no one willing to step in and say "Enough!" I charge on down the eventually vertiginous slope. Which leads back to my place, where we switch briefly to beer and then back to wine, and the other cool lawyer cracks out a guitar. This leads inevitably to Rolling Stones covers and a visit from the landlord. We quiet down a little, but not enough to prevent the neighbour from telling me the next day that our performance of Angie was excellent.

So it was a good start to Easter, the less said about the next day and the very partially digested ham and cheese sandwich I got to see for the second time and the not getting up till about 4pm the better I think. But I am mucho mejor now, and the neighbour has scored another free ticket to the Stones - all's well that ends well.
