Wonderful.Nights
Wonderful night stars that decorated the skies of Austria. Wind that knew no limit, water that cooled down the surface of the earthly paradise. Then there was the moonlight that reflected off of the ripples in the lake. Compared to the war, this seemed like heaven, but even so, everyone desired to return home. Even Richard, himself, could not deny he missed the family and friends he left in Pennsylvania, but it would hurt him to part with Lewis Nixon.
Who would want to avoid his charismatic humor, his beautiful dark eyes, and his addiction to Vat 69. It seemed that all this would become a distant memory when he left, hopefully to the Pacific Theater, to befriend new sergeants, lead more young soldiers into war. It hurt him worst to part with the men he had gone to war with than with his family.
But, war did that to you. It made you that way because you had to put sole trust on your companions to help you when you got hit, to encourage you when you felt like you might have hit rock bottom.
Even so, Lew meant so much to him. Lew was his best friend, confidant, a source of encouragement, and someone he could rely on. Parting with him would be…hell.
He smiled. Bringing the cup of coffee to his lips, he drew his attentions away from the window and to the door, which was being opened. In the door, there appeared the shadow of the man he had dedicated his thoughts to, his friend Nix. He had a sad expression on his face; Lew had indeed become a sad man.
Closing the door behind him Nix moved closer to the man that sat at his desk. Dick watched his every move silently, not being able to find the words to speak. Finding it hard to ask the upset man what was wrong, even if they were best friends.
“You’re still up?” he asked, forcing a smile that ended up looking more like a grimace
Dick looked up at him, smiling lightly as he put the mug down.
Nix was hiding something, but he felt he couldn't ask him. He felt compelled to stand up, but as he did, Lew grabbed his shoulders and pull him toward him. Dick didn’t know how it happened, but their lips touched and it felt like the most amazing feeling in the world. As Nix pulled back, Dick wouldn’t let him go, he almost fell over his desk, attempting to feel the same surge of electricity that ran through him.
Nix seemed surprised, he could tell in the small gasp he made. He acted as it was unlike him to be so straightforward.
Maybe it was.
