G'day and welcome to the Australian installment of Candace's journal. I'm taking a writing class while I'm over here this month so most, if not all, of my creative energy will go into writing essays for that. As a result, my journal entries might sound like ramblings. I do plan to post favorite excerpts from my travel journal as well as pictures, yay.
OK, now for the randomness of how much I lurved Sydney (oh, how I will miss thee tomorrow...when we leave for Cairns):
*television programming starts in different parts of the hour. Not 9 or 9.30, but 9.25...
* Sydney felt very much like home and I found myself lost in the Queen Victoria Building (or some other shopping place on Park St.) and explored the underground stores for about three hours. Yay for finally finding the converter. Thank God for the woman's ability to remember landmarks, because I was never too lost in finding my way back to the hotel. All this would have been more fun with company, but I'm glad I got to explore on my own. Independent woman much? Ha, right.
* Circular Quay was gorgeous and so is Sydney Harbor in general (bridge, opera house and all). A group of us went to Phillip's Foote, a restaurant at The Rocks where you grill your own meat (not kidding) and had a really fun time. You know it was hard for me to part with $25 for a dinner that was just for myself, but the experience was worth it. Plus they had unlimited bread and salad bar. I was just happy to hang out with the group since I was out sick with a headache the night before. :(
* Transit system is lovely here and so dependable. I hope it's as good in Melbourne too. :)
* There doesn't seem to be any censorship here on TV. A Target commercial for a bra sale this week had women running around in a park with their shirts over their heads. Now, it can be argued that Victoria Secret ads in the US are racier, and the Target ad was actually funny, but it just threw me for a second. Oh, there are really intense commercials about safe driving here (flashback to Under the Influence episode of Jack & Bobby). I laughed when I heard the word "bastardly" used on the news yesterday morning. OK, I must sound so square for being shocked by any of this.
* Channel 7 has something called "The Pammy and Tommy Lee Hour" featuring Stacked and Tommy Lee Goes To College. Seriously though, who cares?! Why did I even write this, lol.
* Die Hard was funnier to watch here. Not sure why, but I was laughing a lot.
* OK, I have decided to wait until I get to my own computer to upload pictures to Photobucket... I forsee doing any of that stuff now taking really long.
* Major visits: Taronga Zoo, Royal Botanic Garden, The Domain & The Art Gallery of New South Wales, and Circular Quay/The Rocks.
* Ooh, Mrs. Macquarie's Chair was great to visit the first day and I swung around the area today to see Russell Crowe's apartment again. I'm so honing my paparazzi skills (not really) but sadly no Russell today. It has been rainy the last two days, but hopefully the weather will be better up north.
* Double ooh! I finally met a kangaroo today. So cute!
Otay, so if I change my mind on the pic situation, it'll probably be in a week when I'm on a college campus again. I know this is really late but I hope you all have a great new year! :D <3
