I'm off on me hols on Friday, to Malaysia and Thailand. Which is lot of flying. (Just talk among yourselves for a few minutes while I have a fit of the vapours. Right... okay, that should do it)
Last time I went to Thailand was about, oh, five years ago, and I had to take my books along as large chunky objects constructed from thinly-pressed sheets of mashed-up tree - you know the sort of thing I mean. The trouble with those things is you can only get about three or four in your backpack before you become unable to pick it up, and if one of those is "Life of Pi"*, then you're well and truly stuffed.
Fortunately we are now living in the Future and this time out I am taking along more books than I will probably ever get round to reading in what remains of my lifespan (including Dan Brown. Well - it just wouldn't be a proper holidays without not reading some Dan Brown, would it?) All courtesy of my tiny, lightweight Kindle.
So now all I have to remember to pack is the Kindle (and the cute little baggie I knitted for it), and it's cable and charger. And of course the mobile phone, the mp3 player, the camera, the Nexus fondle-pad and the netbook, plus all their associated (different) cables and adaptors and chargers and pouches and cases and whatever else they need to keep them happy.
*Sigh*. Couldn't we just have flying cars instead?
* that's several hours of my life I'll never get back again
