Personally I'm not a carpet person. My aversion steams from the greasy matted shag carpet that was in my friends' parents basement. *shudder*
We've removed all the carpet in our main floor and we're planning on removing all the carpet in the basement as soon as we can afford to have something else put in its place. But of course if we remove the carpet and put down floors we'd have to fix the walls and the insulation, and if we do that we'd have to reframe some of the rooms, and if we do that.... yeah, you know how it goes.

Me: I need a drink.
Oh gin drinkers do their fair share of spilling, but gin doesn't stain, which is another reason why we should all Drink Moar Gin! It goes really well with carpets. The central area of the old carpet, across which we had trekked for 18 years, was actually in the best condition. The worst stains were to be found underneath the little side tables where drinks had been spilt placed. Exhibit A:
