What's cooking

The Husband is offshore* and The Daughter is in Edinburgh sorting our her new pad for next year. No 1 son spends most of the day in bed, so I have had the house mostly to myself all weekend, and in theory I could have been wildly productive and done lots of things, but in practice I have vegetated in my chair and looked at frocks on Ebay. Heigh ho.

It does, however, mean that I get to cook something different for dinner. No 1 son is Picky, but it's a different Picky from The Daughter and The Husband. No 1 son will eat fish, but not chicken, and pork, but not beef (unless it is burgerified). The daughter will eat chicken (not the legs), but not fish. The Husband will not eat anything with bones in it. Sometimes I take advantage of his absence to have some nice lamb chops, but No 1 son will not eat lamb, so instead we are having pork spare ribs!

Sometimes I am *this* close to telling them to think of the starving children in Japan**, but I bet Japan is full of ungrateful children who won't eat something-or-other too, and whose saintly mothers have to keep spreadsheets which sort the three things that everyone will eat.

* In the middle of the North Sea. He was originally going to be going to Australia for 3 weeks, which he was quite keen on, even though it's winter Down Under. This tells you something about Scottish summers compared with Australian winters. However the job in Oz slipped, and he ended up in the North Sea. Oh dear.

** Weird Al Yankovic. I know.
