the best part is at the end when she blames or post-abortion promiscuity on the abortion experience being traumatizing...oh wait, you were pregnant at 13 to begin with.

abortion is one of those topics where i can see points on both sides... i understand why people think it is murder, although i don't completely agree with that opinion or the arguments behind it.

however, i think what a lot of people get confused about with this whole topic is that abortion is a choice and like any other choice, a person should educate themselves before choosing it, and like any other choice, for some people it is the wrong choice to make.

because this woman's own choice was a mistake for her doesn't persuade me that it is a mistake for everyone. that's why it's a choice, not a mandate. it is disappointing that seemingly no one at the clinic educated her and that the doctor did not attempt to connect with her at all, but she or her parents had the ability to educate themselves and demand the service they needed.

i also find it interesting that she said the saline solution suffocated the baby since babies don't breathe until they are born, oxygen being provided by the umbilical cord and placenta, i do believe. so unless this solution killed the placenta, it is not literal hypoxia, or lack of oxygen/suffocation. i believe the fluid is only used to induce contractions, although some burning occurring could be reasonable as it is a high concentration of salt in the solution.

anyhow i know i'm preaching to the choir. i do think that the trauma of any medical procedure, especially one as wrought with controversy as abortion, can negatively effect the patient years later, but that is part of making decisions and dealing with mistakes and i would hope that extensive counseling and assistance is offered or required for women who are facing such a difficult or at least controversial decision. it would rarely seem to benefit a woman to have an unexpected, unwanted pregnancy, no matter what her ultimate choice. i would go to counseling under that circumstance alone. traumatic, complicated, time consuming, painful and expensive, whichever way you draw it. ugh.

yay for birth control.

thanks for posting.
