Have I finished a book? Don't die of shock. :P (Actually I have finished some, just not updated this journal, oops.)
Actually, it was because I was reading this one. It's one of those books that have to put down and walk away from even now and then because it all gets a bit harrowing because it's real. Also, I tend to struggle a bit more with non-fiction books anyway.
It's very good though, in between the haunting bits there are some funny stories and interesting insights. I liked
his description of his relationship with the BBC in the last chapter. His adventures in the amazon are as amusing as you'd expect. He used to write for the Spectator alot as well - I didn't know that. He seems quite the fan.
Um, yes. Very good. It made me want to go and find out more about various events of the last 40 years or so, which can only be a good thing. He writes well, giving you just enough details about the big picture to be getting on with, but focuses on his own experiences and the individuals which it what counts, really.
I have the second book, but I might leave it for a little while and finish all the other books I'm halfway through atm first.
I don't have my John Simpson icon on this account. Shocking! ;)
