Happy New Year everyone!
This past year has brought us many blessings - the expansion of our store, lots of wonderful new programs, new employees, new friends, and yet another year we don't have to go find real jobs! :) We had great fun at our Dec 29 Hogwarts Yule Ball. Thank you to everyone who attended. Please let us know if you have ideas for future events you'd like us to host.

We're looking forward to 2008 being even better, as we continue to expand our offerings. Below are upcoming events.

FIRST FRIDAY FUN! (Jan 4, Feb 1, Mar 7)
The first Friday of each month is festival time for us! Featuring:
* Tarot readings by Temple Richmond from 6-8pm. Please call or email if you'd like to make an appointment. Sessions are about 20 minutes and cost $10. drop-ins also welcome.
* Face Painting by our own Kirsten Vaughan from 3-5pm
* Wendy Mehndi henna body art from 5-8pm. Cost is $5-$15 depending on design. (http://wendymehndi.com)

BLACKBEARD RETURNS - NEW DATE JAN 13 - 1pm and 3pm
Chris Suttle is back as the nefarious pirate telling tales of Blackbeard's life. Shows at 1pm and 3pm. Tickets are $3 each and benefit the National Autism Society. Parents free with paid child. Come dressed in your pirate finest!

Chris has spent the last eight years portraying Blackbeard, also known as Capt. Edward Teach. From his famous one man show at the Teach's Hole pirate museum in Ocracoke NC to his numerous film and television appearances, Mr Suttle has delighted audiences with his lively and unique storytelling abilities. Mr. Suttle is also a member and master instructor with the Stage Combat Association of America, a member of the Conch Republic Navy and first gunner aboard the HMS Wolf, an 18th century pirate ship in Key West, FL. In 2004 he was blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Ethan Suttle. Ethan was diagnosed at 13 months with severe autism. Since then, all of the proceeds from Mr. Suttle's shows have gone to benefit the National Autism Society. Come meet the legendary terror of the seven seas and help the continued battle to find a cure for autism.

CHAINMAIL CLASSES
Local Chainmail artist Cat Hallett will still be teaching classes on Tues, Jan 15 at 5pm and Sun, Jan 27 at 4pm. Please call ahead to reserve. Cost is $7 per class plus $3 for materials. Please bring 2 pairs of needle-nosed pliers with you. Cat has also put together some Do-it-yourself Chainmail bracelet kits with a great tutorial booklet for $18.95 each. These are great for people who want to learn but don't have time in their schedules to attend a class.

WIZARDS OF THE TRIANGLE (WOTT!?) - Harry Potter fan club - Jan 8, 7:30pm
A monthly gathering of Harry Potter enthusiasts - each month we'll have discussions, activities, news, music and more. Come in costume if you like. Share your filk, fan-fiction, recipies, knitting patterns, games, crafts, artwork, chocolate frog cards, and wizard rock. Suitable for all ages. Meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:30pm. (come to the Re-readers club and stay for WOTT!)

HARRY POTTER RE-READERS CLUB - Jan 8 & 22
We'll be meeting twice a month to re-hash the books together section by section, talk about what they mean to us, what hints for the future we find in the books and compare the books to the movies. We'll be doing about 4 chapters at a time on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month beginning at 7pm. See the Google Calendar for details. We'll start with Chapters 1-4 of Sorcerer's Stone at our first meeting on Jan 8 and chapters 5-8 on Jan 22.

MEDIEVAL MUSIC SHOW & TELL Jan 14-16
Resident Early Music expert Scott Vaughan will be showing off some of his collection of reproduction medieval and renaissance instruments - with demonstration and some hands-on. Homeschoolers welcome! Sessions occur:

* Jan 15 Tues 3:30 pm
* Jan 16 Wed 7pm

LIFE AFTER HARRY BOOK CLUB - Jan 17
This is a Fantasy Book club (and recovering Potterholics support group) which gets together on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7pm to discuss novels. Our book for Jan 17 is Airborne by Kenneth Oppel. "In a swashbuckling adventure reminiscent of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson, Kenneth Oppel, author of the best-selling Silverwing trilogy, creates an imagined world in which the air is populated by transcontinental voyagers, pirates, and beings never before dreamed of by the humans who sail the skies." SCOTT IS GOING TO JAIL! - JAN 16
I have the honor and pleasure of participating in Muscular Dystrophy Association's 2008 Cary Lock-Up to help "Jerry's Kids®". I will be "locked up" for a few hours on Jan 16 to help raise funds. I want to put forth every effort to raise my "bail" of $3000 before then. To reach my goal I need your help! Your donation would help the MDA continue the fight against muscular dystrophy. BURNS NIGHT SCOTTISH MUSIC CONCERT - Jan 25th 7pm
Scott and Kirsten Vaughan are joined by harpist Marilyn Wiendand and soprano Margaret McLeod to perform an evening of scottish music in tribute to Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. Wear your tartans!

THE TRAITOR'S WIFE by Susan Higginbotham - Feb 2 11am
Local Author Susan Higginbotham will be reading from and autographing copies of her historical novel "The Traitor's Wife." The story is set in 14th century England amidst a twisted web of royal affairs. We have the book available for $25.95, ISBN 9781583484753

TUESDAY STORYTIMES
Every Tuesday morning at 11 am, we read stories geared for 3-6 year-olds. We think you'll agree that Scott is an excellent and engaging reader. He is a regular reader at Cary Elementary and Cary Presbytarian Preschool. Please feel free to bring your playgroups and homeschool groups.

COMMON ROOM
Did you know that our "Common Room" at the back part of the store is available for clubs, meetings, gaming, birthday parties, parties and performances? Costs on using the space vary depending on the type of activity and number of people involved. Please talk to Kirsten or Scott if interested. We also offer cold drinks for sale and free wi-fi if you're just looking for a cool place to hang out for a while or meet up with friends.
