Being a total Georgette Heyer fan, this reads like one of her best, but with added Merlin and Arthur and everyone and memories and Mordred, and it's just ... Brilliant!
The vernacular, the settings, the ton, it all feels familiar and comfortable and perfect. And they fit in SO well. I adore how you've slotted Uther and Arthur and, well, everyone, into this world. I love how deliberately obtuse Arthur is about Merlin, and how Morgana is remembering, and I'm almost dreading something bad happening to them all, because I love this version of them like mad.
I am ridiculously happy right now.
*wonders if I can get away with reading Part Two at this hour of the night without inciting divorce proceedings*

I admit that the first bit of research I did for this was rereading Frederica and The Corinthian. I wanted it to be Heyerish rather than generic Regency, so I'm relieved that it comes off so well.
Arthur slotted into this setting effortlessly. Merlin, on the other hand, was much harder to map onto a different setting. His whole way of speaking is much more anachronistic than Arthur's.
Thank you for the lovely comment.
